Colfax and Elk Mound still searching for their swings

Colfax and Elk Mound was in action three times this last week as they continued to struggle. They started the week off at Valley Golf Course and Colfax came in with a fifth place finish and Elk Mound in last with sixth. They then participated in the Whitetail Classic on Wednesday, April 27. Both teams finished in the middle of the pack out of twenty-one schools. They wrapped up the week at Spring Valley on Friday, April 29 with Colfax taking fifth and Elk Mound in sixth.
Mondovi
The Colfax and Elk Mound golf teams were in action on Monday, April 25 in Mondovi at Valley Golf Course. The two teams finished at the bottom of the teams participating with Colfax finishing fifth and Elk Mound in sixth. The home team Mondovi took home first place as a team with a total of 155 shots. Tyler Leach from Spring Valley took top honors on the day by shooting a 35 on the course.
Colfax
The Colfax team finished with a total of 186 shots and were lead by senior Brett Prince who shot a 40 on the course. Just two shots behind him was senior teammate Trevor Seston with a 42. The next three varsity players shot in the 50s and struggled a little on the course. Fellow senior Trey Guillickson finished with an even 50 on the afternoon.
Freshman Dennan Fogarty and senior Andy Buckley finished with a 54 and 59 and really struggled on hole three and hole seven on the course.
Prince finished seventh overall on the afternoon and fellow teammate Trevor Seston finished thirteenth on the day.
As a team they finished seven strokes behind Glenwood City for fourth place. They will continue to keep fighting and improving on the year.
Elk Mound
On the afternoon, Elk Mound finished with 196 strokes that put them in last place in the meet. Elk Mound was led by junior Jameson Rubenzer who shot a 39 which was also good enough for fifth overall in the meet.
The rest of the team did not back up Rubenzer at the meet with the next closest player being freshman Maxwell Marquardt who shot a 49. The lone senior, Colin Svee came in third for the team by shooting a 51 while fellow freshman Dillon McLaughlin chipped in with a 57. Rounding out the Elk Mound squad was sophomore Emily Bartig who had a rough day on the course and finished with a 63.
Colfax
The Elk Mound and Colfax golf teams were in action Wednesday, April 27 at Whitetail golf course for the Whitetail Classic. Colfax finished eight and Elk Mound ninth out of twenty-one schools. There was also a two way tie for fifth and a three way tie for seventh. Thorp finished first on the day with a team score of 331.
Colfax
Colfax entered the meet struggling a little bit on the year, but finished eighth overall with a team score of 411. On the front nine, the Vikings tallied a 201 and finished with a 210 on the back nine.
The top three varsity spots were just a couple strokes away from each other with senior Trevor Seston leading the way with a 93. Just one shot back was fellow senior Brett Prince adding a 94. Rounding out the top three was senior Trey Guillickson with a 96.
Andy Buckley and Dennan Fogarty struggled on the day as they shot a 141 and 128.
Elk Mound
Elk Mound was also trying to improve their play on the season as they entered the meet and finished the day shooting a 417. They finished the front nine with a 207.
Leading the way for the Mounders was junior Jameson Rubenzer who tallied an 88 on the day. He played very consistently as he had a 44 on the first nine and a 44 on the back nine. Rubenzer was the lone Elk Mound player under 100 on the day.
Sophomore Nathaniel Schreiber was second on the team with 105 on the day and just a few shots behind was freshman teammate Maxwell Marquardt with a 111.
Rounding out the varsity team for Elk Mound included freshman Dillon McLaughlin with a 113 and senior Colin Svee with a 114.
Spring Valley
The Colfax and Elk Mound golf teams were in action Friday, April 29 in Spring Valley with Colfax taking fifth and Elk Mound taking sixth place. Mondovi took home the first place finish by shooting a 172 on the day.
Colfax
The Colfax golf team finished fifth with 199 shots on the afternoon with everyone on the team finishing close to each other. The top three on the team all finished with a 48 on the course. These included: senior Trevor Seston, senior Brett Prince, and senior Trey Guillickson.
The final two on the varsity squad struggled a little bit more by shooting in the fifties on the day. Freshman Dennan Fogarty tallied a 55 and sophomore Richard Stehling rounded out the team with a 59.
The final two will have plenty of playing time to keep improving on their games the rest of this year and the years to come.
Colfax will be in action twice this next week as they play Monday and Friday.
Elk Mound
Elk Mound finished just one shot back of Colfax on the day by posting a score of 200. They continued to have junior Jameson Rubenzer lead they way by shooting a 46 on the day. The Mounders also had one more player under 50 with sophomore Nathaniel Schreiber posting a 49.
The lone senior Colin Svee came in third for the team with a 51 and freshman Maxwell Marquardt a few shots behind him with a 54. Rounding out the top five for Elk Mound was freshman Dillon McLaughlin with a 55.
Rubenzer finished tied for eighth overall in the meet and will look to keep improving. Elk Mound will be in action again on Friday, May 6 at Whitetail Golf Course.
