ARCADIA — The Elk Mound softball team was in action on Saturday, April 23 in Arcadia to take on Onalaska and Aquinas. The Lady Mounders would beat Onalaska 1-0 in the first game and then drop the next game to Aquinas by a score of 7-4.
Onalaska
In the first game of the day, it was a pitcher’s game with only one run on the board and it went to Elk Mound. Shutting down the Onalaska bats was senior pitcher Abbey Olsen. Olsen pitched a complete game while only allowing two hits during the game. She had four walks, but backed them up with six strikeouts.
Elk Mounds bats were also quiet in the win as they could only manage five hits on the game. Collecting those hits for the Lady Mounders included: Olsen, sophomore Allison Lindquist with two, junior Elizabeth Bauer, and sophomore Madysen Borofka.
With only the five hits and scoring only one run, Allison Lindquist picked up the only RBI of the game for either team.
Aquinas
The Lady Mounders were looking to build on the momentum they had in the first game of the day as they faced Aquinas in game two of the day. Aquinas had other plans for Elk Mound as they beat them 7-4.
Elk Mound would get off to a good start in the game by scoring two right away in the first inning. From there they would score one in the third and their last one in the fifth inning.
Four would not be enough as junior Karie Jo Nigon could not keep keep the Aquinas bats down. She pitched five innings allowing nine hits, four walks and five runs. She only had one strikeout on the loss.
Abbey Olsen came in to pitch one inning in the top of the sixth. She allowed three hits, a walk and two runs in her short time on the mound.
At the plate, the Lady Mounders collected ten hits total and adding to their hit total for the year included: Olsen with two, Nigon with three, junior Emily Ausman, Lindquist, senior Jade Sorenson with two, and freshman Abby Curry.
With the four runs they scored, only three came from RBIs and picking those up were: Nigon, Ausman, and Lindquist.
Elk Mound will look to keep their season rolling as they push toward the second part of the season still sitting in first place in the conference.
