Colfax track team sprinting in the right direction

WEST SALEM — The Colfax track team was in action on Saturday, April 16 in West Salem for the West Salem Invitational Wrap Up meet. Both teams had a good day and a lot of personal bests were broken at this meet.

Girls

On the day, the girls finished fifth on the day with a total of 75 points. West Salem won the team for the girls with 119 points. Girls that had a great day at the meet include: junior, Ally Heidorn; senior, Dempsey Fogarty; freshman, Erica Kallstrom; senior, Courtney Dressel; and the 4 x 200-meter team along with the 4 x 800-meter relay team.

Ally Heidorn finished fourth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.79 and also took fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.02.

Dempsey Fogarty took first in the 800-meter run for Colfax with a winning time of 2:24.58. Fogarty is also the anchor of the 4 x 200 and 4 x 800-meter relay teams. She also finished second in the long jump with a distance of 15-06.75.

Erica Kallstrom flew in the 3200-meter run taking first by almost twenty seconds ahead second place with a time of 12:36.94.

The 4 x 200-meter relay team was made up of Ally Heidorn; junior, Megan Schleusner; junior, Bryana Buchanan; and anchor, Dempsey Fogarty. They won the final with a time of 1:53.88.

The 4 x 800-meter winning relay team was put together with junior; Abbagail Schotter; Courtney Dressel; Erica Kallstrom; and Dempsey Fogarty with a time of 10:21.36.

Eight girls achieved personal bests in the meet, which makes a coach very happy. These girls and events were: Bryana Buchanan in the 100M, with a time of 14.10; Courtney Dressel in the 1600M, with a time of 5:56.65; Ally Heidorn in the 200M and triple jump, with a time of 28.02 and jump of 29-05.50; freshman, Emma Hurlburt in shot put, with a throw of 24-11.00; sophomore Mackenzie Jensen in the 1600M run, with a time of 6:20.42; Erica Kallstrom in the 3200M run, with a time of 12:36.94; and Abbagail Schotter in the 1600M run, with a time of 6:17.42.

Boys

On the day, the boys team finished fourth with 81 points. West Salem won the teem for the boys with a score of 235. The boys were lead by junior, Jacob Larson; senior, Tucker Hovde; senior, Hunter Lieffort; and senior, Isaac Lee.

Jacob Larson finished fourth in the 400-meter run and the 800-meter run with a time of 56.20 and 2:12.63.

Tucker Hovde set a personal best in the 800 as well as the 1600-meter run with times of 2:23.84 and 5:01.11.

Hunter Lieffort tied his personal best at pole vaulting along with taking first clearing 12-00.00 on the afternoon. He also competed in discus for the first time and took fifth with a throw of 116-01.

Isaac Lee improved on his best performance in the triple jump by jumping 41-00.05 which was also good enough for first in the meet. He beat his old personal best by almost a foot.

The 4 x 100-meter relay team took second with a time of 47.33 just .02 behind Luther who took first. The team is made up of freshman, Luke Heidorn; senior, Jacob Steinke; senior, Kedar Davis; and junior anchor, Aliymu Davis.

Setting personal bests on the afternoon included: Aliymu Davis in the 100M and triple jump with a time of 11.84 and a jump of 38-03.25; junior Michael Lyrek in the 200M, with a time of 25.68; sophomore Adam Pretasky in the 100M with a time of 11.83; and Jacob Steinke in the 200M, with a time of 24.22.

Head coach Ryan Krall was very please on how his team performed at this track meet.

“Across the board we were really good today, I couldn’t have been happier,” stated Krall.

“We have really worked hard in practice over the last two weeks and I’m shocked by how quickly our kids have been able to recover and compete at a high level,” added Krall.

The team will be back in action Thursday, April 21 at home and then on the road for the Schultz Invitational at Arcadia on Friday, April 22.
