Colfax tracksters open season indoors at Tomahawk Invite
EAU CLAIRE — The Colfax boys’ and girls’ track and field squads opened April and the 2016 season indoors at the Tomahawk Invitational on the UW-Eau Claire campus Friday, April 1.
The Lady Vikings, propelled by a individual winners Dempsey Fogarty and Erica Kallstrom and three-time place winner Ally Heidorn, placed fifth in the 10-team event with 67 points.
Third place finishes by seniors Tucker Hovde and Isaac Lee were the top scorers for a Colfax boys’ team that tallied 26 points to place tenth.
Senior Dempsey Fogarty scored the Vikings’ first top finish of the day with a gold-medal performance in the 800 meters. Fogarty finished in a time of 2:26.15.
Teammate and freshman Erica Kallstrom finished fourth in the 800 m (2:37.51) and then pocketed Colfax’ second and final gold with a victory in the 3,200 meter run (12:56.11).
Ally Heidorn placed and scored in three events. The junior placed second in the 200 meters with a time of :29.65 and added a pair of sixth-place finishes in the 55 meters and triple jump to her take.
Seniors Marianne Scharlau and Courtney Dressel each copped a third. Dressel finished with the bronze in the 1,600 meter run (6:28.51) while Scharlau threw the shot put 33’ 9” to take third.
Abbagail Schotter gave the Vikings’ girls a second place finish in the 1,600 when she finished fourth just a second behind Dressel.
The Colfax girls were also second in the 4 x 800 meter relay.
Seniors also led the way on the boys’ side as Tucker Hovde and Isaac Lee secured a pair of bronze-medal finishes.
Hovde ran a 2:18.33 for third in the 800 meters and Lee sailed 38’ 5” for third in the triple jump.
Aliymu Davis took fifth in the triple jump and sixth in the 55 meter dash while sophomore Spencer Herrick added another sixth-place finish in the shot put.
The boys’ 4 x 200 meter relay squad took eighth place.
