Colfax Science Olympiad members compete at regionals

MENOMONIE — Several members of the Science Olympiad team from Colfax High School recently competed at the Western Regional meet held in Menomonie.

Joe Verdon placed third in the Air Trajectory division against strong competition, falling only to perennial powers Boyceville Purple and Menomonie Maroon.

Trey Gullickson and Trevor Seston also took home some third place hardware in the Bridge Building division with their bridge holding the maximum load of 15,000 grams before the structure collapsed.

Isaac Lee and Grady Gibson placed fourth for “Write It, Do It”, an event that required great instructional writing skills by Grady and an ability to follow those instructions by Isaac and recreate the item described.

Marianne Scharlau, Dempsey Fogarty and Tanner Nierenhausen competed but did not place.

The team, coached by Mark Mosey,  will move on to state competition April 2 at UW-Stout.
