MADISON – Years of hard work and dedication have finally paid dividends for Colfax’ Brady Simonson.
The senior will cap his career this evening when he wrestles for the Division 2, 138-pound state championship inside the Kohl Center at the 2016 WIAA State Wrestling tournament.
Simonson, who has won three matches over the past couple of days including a demonstrative 9-1 victory over East Troy senior Gabe Braam in last night’s semifinals, will face a familiar foe in the title match – unbeaten and three-time defending state champion Hunter Marko of Amery.
Marko, 35-0, and Simonson last tangled a week ago in the sectional finals in Osceola where the Amery senior won a tight 5-3 decision.
Expect another good battle in this sure-to-be highlight match of the championship session which gets underway at 6 p.m.
Simonson, a three-time state qualifier for the Bloomer-Colfax squad, had not won a state match before this tournament and heads into the final match of his prep career with a season record of 42-3.
