Bloomer-Colfax places fourth at HON conference meet, Simonson and Hetke conference champions
SUPERIOR — A pair of Bradys were both crowned Heart O’ North Conference champions to help the Bloomer-Colfax co-op team place fourth of nine teams at the meet in Superior Feb. 6.
Competing at 138 pounds, Brady Simonson won his third conference championship in four years with three wins, starting with a fall over his Hayward opponent in 1:31, a technical fall (20-5) at 4:00 over a Barron wrestler, then won the championship match with a pin in 4:34 against a Spooner opponent. Simonson won the conference championship his freshman and junior years and was third as a sophomore.
Brady Hetke won the 195 pound division with a bye in the first round, a quick pin in 0:34 over Barron and a pin at 3:11 against a Spooner grappler.
Cole Anderson-Olson was the runner-up at 182 pounds, starting his day with a pin at 3:19 against Northwestern, a 4-0 decision over Chetek-Weyerhaeuser-Prairie Farm, then lost via a pin in 1:52 against Superior.
Placing third were both Zack Arvold at 170 pounds and Jarrod Kressin at 145 pounds. Arvold won his first match by a major decision over Spooner 15-4, dropped his second one by a 7-2 decision against Cumberland, won a 10-5 decision against C-W-P-F, then won the third place match in a pin at 3:58 over Hayward. Kressin won his first match, lost the second, and won the next two, the final one 9-3 against Northwestern.
Collin Bungartz finished fourth at 152 pounds with a win, loss, win and a final loss by a major decision 11-2 against Spooner. Ike Kramschuster was fifth at 126 pounds after losing his first match, winning the second, losing the third one then defeated a Barron competitor with a pin at 0:57. Jared Stoll finished sixth at 120 pounds, dropping his first match, winning the second one, losing the third and also losing the final match 5-0 to a Superior opponent. Eric Wachtendonk, competing at 220 pounds, lost his first two matches and did not place.
Up next for the co-op team is the Division 2 regional meet at Ellsworth this Saturday, Feb. 13.
