Colfax students discover their abilities to program a computer

Computers are everywhere, and there is a strong demand for knowledge in computer science. Colfax students, grades 6-12, in their Information Technology classes participated in the worldwide Hour of Code, during Computer Science Education Week (Dec. 7-13).

More than 100 million students worldwide participated in Hour of Code, a one-hour introduction to computer science, designed to demystify code and show that anybody can learn the basics of computer programming. “It was exciting to observe my students at all levels experience success and enthusiasm for computer programming,” said Kara Zutter, Information Technology Teacher.

The Hour of Code is organized by Code.org, a non-profit organization, dedicated to expanding participation in computer science by making it available in more schools. An unprecedented coalition of partners have come together to support the Hour of Code, too — including Microsoft, Apple, Amazon, Boys and Girls Clubs of America and the College Board.
