Elizabeth Fasbender concludes season at WIAA state meet

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — For the second year in a row, Elk Mound cross country runner Elizabeth Fasbender concluded her season competing at the state cross country meet at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids.

Running in a steady rain, Fasbender, a junior,  ran two seconds slower than last year but placed seven spots higher. Her time of 21:59 put her 80th this year in a field of 148 competitors in the Division 3 race, which was won by Alissa Niggemann of Amhearst in 19:00.

“It was a wet and windy day but I’m not sure if that affected Elizabeth or not,” coach Jeremiah Fredrickson said. “She got out really well but lost the pace towards the end. I think we were both a little disappointed in her finish but it makes her hungry to return next year and hopefully be running with her team and not just as an individual,” he added.
