Colfax Health and Rehab News – 11-4-2015

Here we are again experiencing the last days of October. This fall week was a time of anticipation.

One of our favorite entertainers was coming on Monday afternoon. His musical style is so varied we never know what to expect. His fiddle, mandolin and guitar accompany him as he sings his ditties. Dale Martell entertained us with a wide array of his musical styles.

On Tuesday morning we opened the Beauty Boutique. Manicures and hand pampering were offered to all. The manicurist tried to convince patrons that black and orange nails would look good. Sadly no one wanted to make that statement. By 1:30 the Square was starting to fill for Bingo. Expectation and the prospect of prizes to be had kept all in a hopeful mood. Coffee and adult beverages were served with the cookies.

On Wednesday morning the Men’s Breakfast was in full swing at 7 a.m. The aroma of bacon and Blueberry pancakes filled the room with a welcoming calming atmosphere. The men only breakfast is served in the Square on the last Wednesday of every month. After breakfast Pastor Walck was the minister who led the weekly church service. Delores accompanied him on the piano. There was much to be done this week. In the afternoon many people in the Big Yellow House lent a hand. The cookies to be frosted numbered in the hundreds. Busy Hands are Happy Hands so they say. Scores of happy hands could be seen the rest of the day. Their stomachs were happy too, since tasting cookies was part of the fun.

On Thursday morning it was time for Resident Council. The new menu and November’s activity calendar were handed out and the highlights were mentioned.  In the afternoon the Square was alive with bowlers. Everyone wanted to take the trophy home, alas one trophy means one winner. October’s winner was none other than Shirley Christianson. Congratulations Shirley.

Gospel sing Friday morning was a welcome addition to the week. Glen led the sing, Julie played her flute, Bruce strummed on his guitar and Delores our faithful pianist kept everyone on key. The afternoon surprise was a visit by the Colfax Kindergarten Children all anxious for Halloween. Their songs and Halloween costumes were one of the highlights of the week. Halloween costumes on staff and many who came to play bingo brought to mind the verse “Backward, turn backward, O Time, in your flight and make me a child again just for tonight!” Later Happy Hour was a perfect time to eat, drink and be scary.

We all hope you had a Happy Halloween week, we did!
