Colfax elementary teachers receive $50 reward cards from Walmart

COLFAX  —  Teachers at Colfax Elementary have received $50 reward cards from Walmart through the company’s Teacher Rewards program.

Jon Hollinger, the general transportation manager for Walmart Distribution, presented the reward cards during a staff meeting at Colfax Elementary October 6.

Gary Decker, a driver for Walmart, nominated Colfax Elementary for the reward cards.

Teachers can use the cards to buy classroom supplies, such as paper, folders, binders, pencils, crayons and markers.

Hollinger, who said he previously worked as a fifth grade teacher, noted that teachers often spend their own money for classroom items.

The $50 reward cards will help make up for at least a portion of what teachers spend, he said.

“We are proud to honor our community’s teachers, who give time and often their own money to ensure our students have everything they need to be successful throughout the school year,” Hollinger said.

This is the sixth year that Walmart has conducted the Teacher Rewards program and will donate more than $4.5 million to 90,000 teachers around the United States.

More than 5,000 Walmart stores, distribution centers and Sam’s Club locations are eligible to select one local public school, grades kindergarten through eighth, to provide reward cards to teachers.
