Lady Vikings finish 1-3 at Hudson tournament

HUDSON — Saturday, Sept. 12 was a busy day for the Colfax volleyball team as they played four matches at the Hudson Invite, winning one out of the four matches.

In a 19-25, 20-25 loss to host Hudson, Serena Secraw slammed four kills and added four digs, Makayla Mattson had three kills, Bryana Buchanan finished with eight digs while Lakken Meredith led in assists with 11 and added a pair of ace serves.

The Vikings really struggled against Prescott as they had a team total of eight kills in the 12-25, 15-25 loss. Marianne Scharlau smacked three of those kills while Buchanan collected nine digs and two ace serves. Meredith set her teammates up seven times and dug the ball up five times.

Playing Bloomer for the second time this year, the match went three sets before the Vikings fell 21-25, 25-23, 10-15. In what coach Pam Meredith called a great battle between both team’s libero, Buchanan saved 23 points on digs while Bloomer’s Krystina Seibel was also on the floor saving points on several occasions. In addition, Scharlau had a break-out game with her net play, slamming 12 kills and blocking three shots. Erin Nellessen added 10 digs, Meredith came up with 11 digs and 23 assists while Schleusner scored points on three aces.

In their only win of the day, Colfax beat Menomonie 25-13, 14-25, 17-15 as  Scharlau came up big again with 14 kills and one block, Buchanan collected 11 digs with three aces, Schleusner finished with three aces and seven digs and Mady Decker added seven digs to go with 21 assists from Meredith.

“By the end of the day we started to figure out the speed at which we needed to play and the confidence level we need to play at to be successful. Hopefully the girls will be able to recreate this level of play when we begin conference games this week,” coach Meredith said.

Somerset

In an addition to the schedule last week, Colfax dropped a four set match to Somerset 14-25, 22-25, 25-23, 21-25.

Scharlau led the team in kills with eight while Buchanan and Secraw both had four. The team collected 101 digs in the match with Buchanan coming up with 28, Schleusner 22 and Meredith 20 to go with her 19 assists.

Colfax will begin defending their conference title when they host Glenwood City Sept. 15. They then travel to Mondovi Sept. 17.
