BOYCEVILLE — Running on a sunny day with temperatures in the low 70s, the Elk Mound girls’ cross country team had a strong showing, placing third in a 10 team field behind a pair of conference teams at the Boyceville Alumni Invite Aug 27 at Tiffany Creek Elementary School. The boys raced against 11 other teams and finished seventh in the first meet of the season for both teams.
Elizabeth Fasbender picked up where she left off last season as she led the Mounder girls with a fourth place in a time of 22:11. A pair of freshmen were next in line, twins Brook Plaszcz and Alana Plaszcz who were 14th and 15th respectively with Brook finishing in 23:28 and Alana in 23:29 and further back in the pack were Meredith Hainstock in 49th at 27:20, Hannah Cedarblade in 50th at 27:26. Kaitlyn Baier claimed 56th place in 28:02 while Nevada LaPoint was 59th in 28:11. Places and times for the other Mounder runners include: Hanna Hollister (62nd, 28:41), Ciera Lind (66th, 29:15), Audrey Westcott (74th, 30:08), Elayna Gutsch (75th, 30:11), Corrine Zimmer (76th, 30:13), Hannah Carlson (77th, 30:14) and Mattea Linberg (85th, 31:58). There were 97 competitors in the race which was won by Courtney Dressel of Colfax in 21:25. Colfax won the team title while Glenwood City was second.
With 125 individuals in the boys race, Hayden Kohls was the first one in for the Mounders, placing 46th with a time of 21:04. Ryan Mohr was a mear two seconds back of him for 47th at 21:06 and Nate Kruger claimed the 50th spot in 21:31.0, while Jonas Kohls was nipping at his heels, placing 51st in 21:31.2. Running in a pack, Jameson Rubenzer took 54th at 21:47.0, Nate Lind 55th in 21:47.4 and Grant Kjellberg was 56th at 21:47.7. Other competitors included: Jake Johnson (64th, 22:34), Nate Schreiber (66th, 22:44), Bowdrie Noller (72nd, 22:52), Matt McLaughlin (78th, 23:31) and Dylan Hanson (92nd, 24:36. Last year’s sectional champion McDonell Central won the team title.
