Greetings from the Big Yellow House. We are having a wonderful summer. We hope you are too! If you need a break from the heat come and visit in our climate controlled environment.
On Monday and Tuesday mornings we had devotions, current events and exercise in the Square. The chefs prepared wonderful dinners like Grilled Seasoned Chicken Breast, Roast Beef, Hamburger potato casserole, Chicken Alfredo, and BBQ Ribs just to mention a few of them. Oh so good!
On Wednesday morning Pastor Walck from Colfax Lutheran Church led a church service. Delores Huber was our pianist. Every week a different Minister comes from 10 different churches in the area. We are blessed by this commitment.
On Thursday mornings residents gathered in the Square for their weekly volleyball game. Anyone is welcome to join. We play sitting in chairs. That does not limit the amount of exercise one gets. The reaching and extending is much harder than you might think! On Friday morning we had Rosary for our Catholic residents. Loretta Logslett led Rosary. Volunteers Glen Edberg and Delores Huber were in the Square directing a gospel sings. Volunteers this week were Eileen Stokke, Merle Roth, Linnea Thompson, Vonnie Flesberg, Leona Ubbelhode, Shari Kennedy, Michelle VanVulpen and Veda who also stopped in to help where needed. We would love to have more volunteers to do personal reading or letter writing or to spend time with a resident playing cards or going for walk in the courtyards.
What did we do in the afternoons and evenings you might ask: well they were filled with fun as well. On Monday we had “Sundae Monday” and Crafts the following Monday. We played Bingo in the Square on Tuesday afternoons. Happy Hour always followed bingo on both Tuesday and Friday. Actually cocktails are available upon request any day! JC Colby captivated the residents with his euphonious voice on one Wednesday afternoon.
That evening the residents were treated to a T-Ball game in the front yard. The Blue and Orange teams from Colfax were introduced as they ran on to the field. Breanne sang our National Anthem. Hands were on their hearts while she sang. Most everyone knew where their hearts were located! When she finished Breanne said “Play Ball”. Icy lemonade and ice cream bars kept the heat at bay.
Last Thursday afternoon Jordon Johnson a local pianist played for two hours, much to the delight of the patrons in the Beauty Shop and the Square. He will be a regular every other Thursdays as his schedule allows. Great Job Jordon!
This Thursday we had Resident Council.
Friday afternoons the Dime Bingo fans played until Happy Hour. This Friday was our Annual Pie and Ice-cream Social. Al’s Polka Pal’s played their polka music, which helps to make the mood and food so festive!
Most every Saturday residents play “Hollywood”. Play, play, play! If it sounds like that’s all we do you are right. We believe in the motto “If it isn’t enjoyable don’t do it”! We find joy in what we do. You will too, especially if you came to Pie and Ice Cream Social.
Don’t forget to put Friday, August 14th on your calendar. That’s our Second Annual Pig Roast, with live entertainment by Jim Herrick and Friends, oh and WE WILL BE SERVING BEER.
That’s the latest and greatest from here in the land of Colfax where the good just keeps getting better!
