Colfax Sportsmen’s Club Scholastic Pistol team places 8th in the United States at Nationals

By: Jim Kraft, Colfax Scholastic Pistol Team (Head Coach)

The Scholastic Pistol program is a nationally sponsored youth shooting program that promotes team work, discipline and leadership.  Competitive marksmanship is a growing draw for teens and college students who find satisfaction in the discipline required.

The Colfax Sportsmen’s Club is made up of 13 student athletes male and female currently ranging in age from 12 – 17.  It is a gender neutral sport where all athletes can compete equally.

In June of 2015 the Colfax team traveled to the Wisconsin state championship match in Muskego WI.   For a first year team they we were hoping to just be competitive, the end result was a first place finish in both the Junior and Senior rim-fire divisions.   It should be noted that Wisconsin has the 2nd largest Scholastic Pistol Program in the nation only behind the state of Tennessee.

In July of 2015 the Junior Rimfire team traveled to the world shooting complex in Sparta Ill to compete nationally against all off the best teams in the United States.   Under some extreme conditions with high temperatures and humidity the team put up a score that bested their state championship time.   In the end out of 45 state teams competing the Colfax Scholastic Pistol team came away with an impressive 8th place finish in the nation.

The student athletes from the communities of Colfax, Elk mound, Menomonie, Eau Claire, and Onalaska, Wisconsin proved that they are among the best in the nation.  Their professionalism, poise, and all around positive attitudes were refreshing attributes to see in our participating youth.

Nationwide youth shooting sports are an integral part of our communities, teaching safe firearms handling and discipline.  Parents find that the demands of practice improve their children’s focus and demand a high level of personal responsibility.  Good grades are a condition of participation.  Kid’s that learn to shoot learn to respect firearms
