Hello! If you are reading this you will know why we have much to be joyful about here at the Big Yellow House. This week was certainly no exception.
Residents were treated to sumptuous meals every day. BBQ Chicken Breasts, Kielbasa and Dumplings, Beef Tips, and Maple Glazed Pork Chops are just a few of the selections that were on their menu. Of course the dessert course was always mouthwatering. Residents were also happy to be inside a climate controlled home when the temperature soared on Friday and Saturday. There were so many things to enjoy all week long.
On Monday and Tuesday mornings residents could come to the Square for devotions, current events and a bit of exercise. Wednesday morning Pastor Toufar led a church service. Pastor Toufar is the minister from New Hope Lutheran Church in Sand Creek. Delores Huber was here to play the piano.
On Thursday morning the Square became a volleyball court. We have had volleyball as an activity for over five years. There were eight people on each team this week. Linnea Thompson was here to help with many of the activities throughout the week.
On Friday morning Delores Huber and Julie led a Gospel Sing in the Square. Loretta Logslett led Rosary for our Catholic residents. Residents had an opportunity to participate in REX Classes every day (REX stands for Restorative Exercise Class). There was a 1 o’clock class on Birch Lane and every evening Bounce Ball was played in the Rotunda at 6 p.m. The afternoon’s activities were nothing to sneeze at either.
A large number of residents came to play “Wheel of Fortune” Monday afternoon.
On Tuesday afternoon our regular Bingo and Happy Hour program didn’t disappoint anyone because of the well-stocked prize selection and beverage of choice. We also had plenty of coffee and cookies. The social hour lasted longer than an hour! We have live music every week. This week the residents were as lively as the entertainers. “Honey and Me” from Chippewa provided their special old time polka music. The residents were over the moon when the music started. One of our 93-year-old residents and a staff member had everyone clapping as they did the hop polka!
Beauty Boutique was held Thursday afternoon. Many residents socialized while they waited to have their paws pampered. What is said at Beauty Boutique stays at Beauty Boutique. I might add though that most of the world problems are solved during these gatherings.
Friday afternoon’s Dime Bingo and Saturday’s “Hollywood Game” kept everyone engaged as the week zipped by. We have much more on our agenda so mark your calendar for our special events. The Pie and Ice cream Social with music by Al’s Polka Pals is our 2nd Annual Anniversary in our new Campus. The Celebration is on July 31 from 5:30 to 7:30. That is one you don’t want to miss.
That is just some of what happened this week here in the land of Colfax where the deer and the dear play. Stop in and visit, have a cup of hot coffee and nibble on freshly baked cookies. They’re so good!
