Elk Mound approves hiring public works crew person

By LeAnn R. Ralph

ELK MOUND — Following a closed session of the Elk Mound Village Board June 3, the board approved hiring Dan Lew for  a water, wastewater and public works crew position for the village.

Pat Hahn, village clerk-treasurer, reported that Lew will start at $18.50 per hour until minimal certifications are met or a satisfactory probationary period of 1,040 hours has been met.

Lew also will receive 40 hours of vacation time upon hire with an additional 40 hours after satisfactory completion of the 1,040 hour probationary period.

After that, Lew will receive vacation time according to parameters included in the village’s employee handbook. Additional benefits are outlined in the handbook as well.

The Colfax Messenger sent an e-mail to Hahn following the June 3 village board’s closed session asking about any action that had been taken.

In the June 10 edition of the Messenger, it was reported that no reply had been received by press time.

Hahn reported that she had, in fact, immediately replied and sent information about the village board’s decision to hire Lew.

Hahn also reported that she had experienced computer problems in the village clerk’s office and that the computer had needed repairs.

For unknown reasons, Hahn’s e-mail message was not delivered until June 10.

The Messenger regrets any confusion caused by the story about the June 3 closed session.
