On the weather channel there was news all week that displayed hail, storms and tornadoes. We also had a flurry of activity here in the Big Yellow House, but it was all good hustle and bustle.
The hustle started in the morning when Chef Tim in the East Dining Room made a special omelet for one resident. The word spread and before you know it residents from other dining rooms wanted him to make them one too. The kitchen’s motto is “How can we serve you?” Some of the entrées on the menu this week were Beef Tips, Ranch Potatoes, BBQ Chicken Breast, Rice Pilaf, Maple Glazed Pork Chops, Kielbasa and Dumplings. Some of the desserts available were Oatmeal Fudge Bars, Pineapple upside down Cake, and Cookies & Cream Pie. No wonder we are rated 5 ***** facility. When someone comes here to live or to recoup after surgery they receive great foods, and wonderful entertainment.
This week the Chuck Kirkwood and Friends band provided an afternoon of splendid nostalgic music. We had movie and popcorn one afternoon which also drew a large crowd. The movie was good, but the smell that emanated from the Square may have had a lot to do with it.
We had Bingo and Happy Hour two times this week and for residents’ spiritual needs we had devotions and Wednesday morning church service. This week Pastor Toufar from New Hope Lutheran Church Sand Creek led the service. Delores Huber was our pianist on Wednesday and on Friday when we had a Gospel Sing. Loretta Logslett also offered Rosary for our Catholic residents.
Midwest Therapy was very busy all week with in patients and out patients. Many residents who have been through therapy return to take advantage of the state of the art exercise equipment in Midwest’s large area.
Our residents can take advantage of so many activity programs or create their own; one of our new residents that moved in this week had already scheduled a special birthday party for Saturday. She and her family and friends celebrated her 99th birthday in the Square on Saturday.
What’s not to love about this place here in the land of Colfax where the town is small but the hearts of the people are large!
