Top 10 CHS graduates of 2015

COLFAX —  Here are the answers to questionnaires distributed by the Colfax Messenger to the top ten graduates of the Colfax High School Class of 2015. The students are listed in the order of their class ranking.

Jeremiah Wait

Jeremiah is the son of Jim and Joyce Wait.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Social Problems — Mr. Dombroski is really fun to be around.

Weights/Fit — Mr. DeMoe gives us great lifts to do, and I love lifting.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

Definitely one of the most memorable events I experienced was during my junior year. We were able to  play Spring Valley at Stout and beat them on a Hail Mary pass to end the game. This game propelled us to our first playoff game for Colfax football in seven years.

• List the activities in which you were involved.

Forensics; Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA); Junior Chamber; football; basketball; baseball; track; powerlifting; Student Council; mentoring; National Honor Society (NHS).

• What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I will continue to work at Cenex. I plan on attending the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. I am still undecided in what major I will be doing, but I am very interested in a sports major like physical therapy, sports management, coaching, or sports sciences.

 

Xena Dusek

Xena is the daughter of Christopher and Stephanie Dusek.

• List your favorite high school classes.

I have enjoyed many classes throughout high school. I enjoy Social Problems because I love discussing current topics about the state of the world. I also enjoy math classes, such as Algebra and Calculus.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

One of the most memorable events of my high school career was my National Honor Society induction ceremony. I was really proud to be in that club and be rewarded for my hard work. I also had a lot of fun being in the high school play sophomore year.

• List the activities in which you were involved.

I was involved in several clubs in high school. I was in Student Council, FBLA, Science Club, National Honor Society. I was also in the school play my sophomore year. For two years I have helped teachers tutor younger students.

• What are your plans after graduation?

After school I plan to attend the University of Minnesota for Psychiatry. During the summer I will work at Bremer Bank in Colfax.

 

Karina Wait

Karina is the daughter of Jim and Joyce Wait.

• List your favorite high school classes.

College Prep English: I really enjoy the teacher.

Advanced Biology: liked going outdoors and the hands-on assignments.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

2013 Girls Basketball State — it was amazing to be a part of the only girls team that has won a state ball.

• List the activities in which you were involved.

Basketball; volleyball; softball; NHS; FBLA; Care Bears; Student Council; yearbook.

• What are your plans after graduation?

I am attending the University of Eau Claire with an undeclared major. My interests lie in the health/medical field. I will be working either at Subway in Colfax or a bank in Eau Claire.

 

Bayli Vacho

Bayli is the daughter of Lisa Ross and Vince Ross.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Band — I love to play and listen to music.

English — I love literature.

Art — I’m passionate for art.

Biology — the subject is very fascinating.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

Participating in three school plays were very memorable for me because it was a blast, and it is an opportunity to shine. Medaling in Science Olympiad also stands out to me because my hard work paid off.

• List the activities in which you were involved.

Band; art; school play; Science Club; Science Olympiad; NHS; Honor’s Band; Solo Ensemble; Jazz Band.

• What are your plans after graduation?

I plan on attending UW-Eau Claire for biology, and I might further my education at UW-Madison.

 

Katie Christoffel

Katie is the daughter of Bob and Lana Christoffel.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Math — I like the challenge and to learn something new every day.

Art — It brings out a creative side and a fun way to express yourself.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

There are so many memories throughout high school that I will never forget. But one of my favorites was when I had the chance to run at the state track and field meet. I felt so honored to be competing at such a high level. I grew closer to my team while also meeting new people. We stayed in dorms where we’d watch movies together and run around like we were Superman. It was like we were one big family! I will never forget all the fun I had that weekend!

• List the activities in which you were involved.

Volleyball (four years); basketball (four years); track (four years); marching band (four years); Pep Band (four years); Jazz Band (four years); Dunn-St. Croix honors band (four years); Dorian Honors Band (two years); Fellowship of Christian Athletes (two years); Future Business Leaders of America (three years); Spotlight Night (three years); Students Against Destructive Decisions (one year); prom committee (one year); Care Bears (one year); school musical (one year).

• What are your plans after graduation?

I will be starting a summer job at Cardinal Glass in Menomonie the Monday after graduation. It is a job I can carry on while I attend UW-Stout with a major in Engineering.

 

Grant Phillips

Grant is the son of Lawrence Phillips and Tamara Nowak.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Calculus and English 12. I really enjoyed both of my teachers.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

I don’t have a single memorable event but my memorable time was my junior year basketball season. It was very memorable because I had so much fun.

• List the activities in which you were involved.

Golf; basketball; Trap Team; NHS; FBLA; Forensics; Junior Chamber.

• What are your plans after graduation?

I will be moving to Texas on May 28th. I will be attending Texas A&M Corpus Christi for mechanical engineering or finance.

 

Matthew Shaw

Matthew is the son of Michael and Sherry Shaw.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Band — It’s a lot of fun. I enjoy playing music.

Calculus — Math is my strong point, and I enjoy learning about it.

AP Chem — Mr. Furey’s classes are always fun. The openness and ease of conversation is enjoyable.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

The most memorable event I’ve experienced in high school was the Nobel Conference I attended during my junior year. It was memorable because of all the great scientists and theorists I got to hear speak about the universe. It was highly educational and was a very fun event to attend with the group that went.

• List the activities in which you were involved.

Band; football; wrestling; NHS; baseball; Science Club; Science Olympiad.

• What are your plans after graduation?

I will work at Kwik Trip in Bloomer until August, then go to UW-Madison for nuclear or mechanical engineering.

 

Noelle Lauren Olson

Noelle is the daughter of Steve and Ann Olson.

• List your favorite high school classes.

My favorite high school classes are weight-lifting, global science, and College Prep English. I enjoying lifting weights and staying in shape. I also love nature and the outdoors. I like College Prep English because Mrs. Myers is an awesome teacher.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

My most memorable event would be prom my senior year. I had so much fun going out to eat, dancing and going to After Prom. I had a lot of fun with my friends. Probably the most fun I have ever had.

• List the activities in which you were involved.

During high school I was involved in Student Council, Future Business Leaders of America, National Honor Society, 4-H, tutoring, teacher’s aide, church youth group, blood drives, fundraisers, prom committee, school play freshman year, elementary secretary’s assistant and the Youth Options program.

• What are your plans after graduation?

After graduation, I plan on spending my summer relaxing and working to save money for college. In the fall I will be attending Chippewa Valley Technical College to take my generals. After completing my generals, I will be transferring to UW-Stout for the dietetics program.

 

Alexis Rudi

Alexis is the daughter of Carl and Polly Rudi.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Spanish — I can now speak Spanish.

Weights — Frisbee, softball, and getting muscles.

Current Events — Because of Mr. Meade.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

2013 Girls’ Basketball State Tournament. It was awesome to be on the team who were the runner-up champions and to look at that silver ball every day coming into school.

• List the activities in which you were involved.

Varsity basketball; volleyball; softball; track and field; FBLA; Student Council; Care Bears; teacher’s aide.

• What are your plans after graduation?

Summer job at KP Katering. I am planning to attend UW-Stout for Restaurant, Hotel, Tourism Manager to be an event planner.

 

Danielle Dachel

Danielle is the daughter of John and Dianna Dachel.

• List your favorite high school classes.

Current Events: I liked learning about everything happening in the world.

Advanced Biology: I liked the hands-on stuff we did and the outdoor activities we did.

• Describe the most memorable event that happened while you were in high school.

When we made it to state my sophomore year and brought home a silver ball. It was memorable because it was the first time a ball has ever been brought to school in a long time.

• List the activities in which you were involved.

Basketball; volleyball; track; cross country; Student Council; FBLA; NHS; Care Bears; yearbook.

• What are your plans after graduation?

I’m going to get a summer job at the nursing home. After summer, I plan to attend Winona State University and major in Nursing.
