Bauer steals show as Mounder boys finish second, girls fourth at conference meet

COLFAX — After winning the 100m and 200m sprints at the conference meet a year ago, Elk Mound’s Jonah Bauer added a couple of more championships to his list when he not only won both those races again, but claimed the 400m dash and the long jump titles as well.

It wasn’t enough however to help his team win the championship as the loaded St. Croix Central Panthers won by 45 points over the Mounders. Bauer ran a personal best (pb) time in the 100 at 11.4, a pb in the 200 in 22.63,won the 400 which is a new race for him this year in 52.99, and after taking up the long jump this year, sailed to a pb (by almost two feet) at 19’-11.

The girls placed fourth for the second consecutive year, led by  a pair of first place relay teams. The 4 X 100 with Kami King, McKenna McVey, Kourtney Zurbuchen and Moriah Mauer came just a hair shy of breaking the conference record with a time of 52.93 (the record is 52.32) while King, Elly Friberg, Callie Nyren and McVey won the 4 X 200 in 1:51.82. The girls also had three scoring points in the 100m dash, which according to coach Jeff Mack is something he can’t remember seeing an Elk Mound team do before.

The top eight places counted for team scores and the first three finishers in each event were named All Conference. Following are Mounder competitors and their places and times/distances:
