HAMMOND -— The Elk Mound baseball team moved into a tie for the conference lead with a 3-1 win over St. Croix Central May 12, then had their game at Mondovi postponed due to rainy weather May 14. St. Croix Central had only one conference loss while the Mounders had two when the game began in Hammond. With the win, Elk Mound and Central are 8-2 in the Large-Dunn St. Croix Conference.
In the top of the third, the Mounders broke through for the first run of the game when Hunter Adleman scored on a Central infield error off the bat of Cole Tyman with two outs. Trey Mohr knocked in two fellow Mounders with a single, again with two outs, in the fourth to make it 3-0 and with Brandon Bohl on the mound, things were looking pretty solid for the Mounders. Bohl was throwing a lot of pitches however, and he began to get fatigued late in the game, according to coach Paul Andrea. After Bohl gave up a run in the sixth, Mohr, who had been playing a stellar shortstop, moved over to the mound and he mowed the Panthers down 1-2-3 in the seventh to earn a save.
Bohl picked up the win, allowing six hits with four walks but as he seems to do each game, disposed of plenty of Panther hitters via the strikeout with 13 of them in six innings.
