Mounders drop first game of season to Spring Valley, split with Arcadia

Elk Mound’s baseball team fell from the unbeaten ranks with a 9-1 loss at home against Spring Valley April 30. The Mounders then played a double header against Arcadia on Saturday, winning the first game 10-7 but dropping the second one 13-12.

Both teams are ranked in their respective divisions with the Mounders number five in D3 while the Cardinals are seventh in D4. But Elk Mound struggled at the plate and collected only five hits by five different players including Trey Mohr, Alex Hollister, Hunter Adleman, Cole Tyman and Dane Lew. The game was knotted at 1-1 after four innings but the Cardinals came up with three runs in the fifth and blew it open with five more in the seventh.

The Mounders committed four errors in the contest and left eight runners stranded on the basepaths. Although Brandon Bohl struck out nine batters in his six innings on the mound, he took the loss allowing seven hits with one walk.

Arcadia-game 1

The Mounders belted 13 hits in the win with two apiece from Jon Storing, Hollister, Adleman, Carter Pritchard, Tyman and Bohl. Pritchard brought in four runs to lead in the RBI department while Tyman and Hollister both brought a runner home. Tyman was the winning pitcher allowing nine runs in five and two thirds innings, striking out four and walking two.

Arcadia -game 2

Although they collected 14 hits in the game, Elk Mound batters whiffed 12 times and came up a run short to absorb their second loss of the week. Bohl was 3 for 4 at the plate with a pair of two base hits and one RBI while Hollister was 2 for 4 with two RBIs. Mohr amd Grant Kjellberg also had two hits each with Kjellberg driving in two runs. Ryan Conlin threw three innings and gave up seven runs with seven free passes and two Ks but Bohl took the loss, giving up a run in one third of an inning.
