The Big Yellow house looked a little more convivial this week.
Spring sunshine and warm afternoons greeted us every morning. Residents watched robins bobbin on the fresh green grass. Even the dandy lions were gleefully popping their long necks up to embrace the sun! Many residents had their first opportunity to go outdoors for a walk or sit in the court yard.
On Monday morning at devotions we had much to be thankful for. We prayed, we played and then we kicked up our heels while we exercised: because we could. After dinner the Square was filled to capacity with residents and families and friends. Dale Martell was the reason. He is a very special entertainer that hails from Minnesota. Dale plays guitar and the fiddle. When he played the “Orange Blossom Special” he brought down the house. He will return June 29th for another concert. We are so lucky to have these top notch entertainers. As the sun set Monday evening everyone was ready for a good night’s rest so they could get up on Tuesday and have oomph to enjoy the day.
On Tuesday morning the Beauty Boutique had many ladies and gentlemen anxious to have their manicures. After all one cannot go to bingo in the afternoon with unkempt nails. Residents love Tuesday because it is Bingo Day and Happy Hour at 3:00. Every evening at 6 p.m. residents gravitate to the Rotunda and play bounce ball. If you walk thru their circle while they are playing take care: they get extra points if they nip you with the ball.
On Wednesday morning Pastor DeMaris led the church service. Delores Huber was our pianist. He is retired now and we are blessed to have him come. His message is always uplifting and fuel for our Soul. After 11 a.m. it is time for fuel for our bodies. The Chefs never let us down. The new spring menu is full of scrumptious delights. We tasted some wonderful cookies after the resident council meeting in the afternoon. Going over the upcoming month programs is always interesting for the residents, but they don’t fool us they come for the fresh homemade baked cookies, bars and treats!
Thursday was April 30th. We bid April a fond farewell by playing Volleyball in the morning. In the afternoon residents were back in the Square to play Wheel of Fortune. Our very own Vanna White “AKA Cathy Davis” put up the letters. Veda was our new Vanna at 2:30 because Cathy and Ashley took some residents on a Joy Ride. They rode around the county side taking in all the beautiful countryside. When residents awoke
Friday morning it was May 1st May Day. May Day, observed in Europe and America, may be best known for their traditions of dancing around the maypole and crowning the Queen of May. Fading in popularity since the late 20th century is the giving of “May baskets,” small baskets of sweets or flowers, usually left anonymously on neighbors’ doorsteps. Instead we had Gospel Sing in the Square led by Glen Edberg with pianist Delores Huber accompany him. When it was over Glen popped his head back in and said “see you out by the maypole”. The Dime Bingo and Happy Hour filled our afternoon with fun like it always does. What a great week here at the Big Yellow House in the land of Colfax where we are proudly sporting bright lime or hot pink T-shirts that say we are recognized as 5 star.
