Colfax finishes off indoor track season

MENOMONIE — Resting the majority of their varsity athletes, Colfax sent just a few members of their track and field team to the Dunn County Indoor Championships meet April 7 at the Menomonie High School Fieldhouse. Both the boys and girls teams finished sixth in a field of six teams as a result.

The first outdoor meet of the season scheduled at St. Croix Central April 9 was cancelled due to poor weather conditions and a wet track.

Jezz Tweed scored the only point for the Vikings at the DC meet by finishing sixth in the 400 m dash at 1:22. Senior Alexis Rudi, who saw limited action last year after moving over from the softball team, tried a couple of new events and was 20th in the shot put with a toss of 21-09.50 and was 39th in the 40 m dash in 7.4.

Jelani Smit was a double winner for the boys, taking the 50 m high hurdles in 7.9 and the 50 m low hurdles. He was also 22nd in the 40 m dash at 5.6. (There were 82 entries in the race as every team could enter as many kids as they wanted to in each event). Isaac Lee earned a fifth place in the triple jump with a leap of 38-20.50 and Jacob Steinke who made the switch from baseball this year was eighth in the 40 m dash in 5.4 and 11th in the long jump at 17-04.50.
