Mounder track team compete in pair of meets

MENOMONIE — The Elk Mound track and field teams became familiar with Johnson Fieldhouse at UW-Stout  when they competed in two meets including the Blue Devil Open March 24 and the Northern Badger Classic March 28. Facing very strong competition from Wisconsin and Minnesota, the Mounder boys placed ninth in a field of 22 teams in the first meet while the girls were 14 of 23 teams, and competing in the Small School Division at the second meet, the Mounders fared much better with the boys placing fourth of 22 teams and the girls were sixth, also in a field off 22.

Blue Devil Open

Jonah Bauer scored all the Mounder points for the boys by zipping to a first place finish in the 55 m dash in 6.68 seconds and a fourth place in the 200 m dash in 24.58. Tyler Sahm competed in three events, placing 22nd in the triple jump at 31-01.50, 27th in the 200 m dash in 26.92 and 32nd in the long jump at 15-07.75. The 4 X 200 relay finished 11th in 1:43.80 while the 4 X 400 team was 12th at 4:04.08.George Friberg tied for 16th in the pole vault, going 9-00 while Chandler Schreiber tied for 20th in the same event at 8-00.

Caleb Kruger ran two events, placing 22nd in both the 800 m run in 2:28.86 and the 1600 m run in 5:28. while Nathan Kruger was 26th in the 1600 at 5:40. Ryan Mohr was 23rd in the 800 in a time of 2:28. 87, Hunter Johnson placed 24th in the 400 m dash in 59.71, Elliot Johnson finished 26th in the triple jump with a leap of 27-05.50 and Jordan VanSchoonhoven was 27th in the 400 in 1:01.05.

Scoring points for the girls by placing in the top eight of their event were Elizabeth Fasbender with a fifth place in the 1600 m run at 5:57, the 4 X 200 relay with another fifth place in 2:00.86 and Elly Friberg with a tie for sixth place in the high jump at 4-08. Taylor Delong was ninth in the shot put at 30-00.75, Fasbender added a 12th place in the 800 in 2:41.61and Friberg was 14th in the 200 m dash at 29:46. Kaitlyn Baier tied for 10th in the pole vault at 6-00 and was 29th in the 400 in 1:15.96 while Allie Weber was 13th in the high jump at 4-03.The 4 X 400 relay placed 14th in 4:56, Moriah Mauer was 15th in the triple jump at 28-11 and was 21st in the long jump at 12-09.75 while Maddie Jenson was 17th in the 200 m dash at 29.94. Mikayla Solberg was 22nd in the shot put with a heave of 25-00.75 and Sarah Sweeney was also 22nd in the triple jump at 27-09.

Northern Badger Open

Scoring team points for the boys were Bauer as he claimed another first in the 55 m dash in 6.67 and a second in the 200 in 24.09. Noah Zurbuchen made his season debut with a fourth in the long jump at 17-07.75, a fifth in the 55 m dash at 6.99 and a sixth in the 200 m dash in 24.87.Schreiber and Friberg tied for fifth in the pole vault at 9-00 and Caleb Kruger was eighth in the 3200 m run in 11:52. The 4 X 200 relay finished third with a time of 1:43.31 while the 4 X 400 was fourth in 4:00.95. The Mounders totaled 49 points as Arcadia won the meet with 68.

The Elk Mound girls scored 30.33 points with Byron (MN) winning it with 91 points. Freshman Weber earned a third place in the 400 m run at 1:05.93 and also took fifth in the high jump at 4-03. Fasbender ran to a fourth place in both the 400 in 1:06.15 and the 3200 in 14:05, Taylor Deling was sixth in the shot put with a toss of 29-07, Baier added an eighth place in the pole vault at 6-00 and the 4 X 200 relay dropped their time and was second in 1:58.87.
