Simonson named to All Chippewa County team

After finishing his junior year on the mat with a 41-5 record and his second trip in three years to the state meet, Colfax-Bloomer wrestler Brady Simonson was rewarded by being named to the All Chippewa County Wrestling Team. This is the third consecutive year he has been selected for the team.

Competing at 126 pounds, Simonson won the Eau Claire North Invitational, took second at both the Shell Lake and Ladysmith Invite and was fifth at the highly competitive Northern Badger Classic. He was the Heart O’ North Conference champion, the regional champion and sectional runner up. He ended his season with a first round loss at the WIAA state meet. On Jan. 27 of this year, Simonson recorded his 100th win, defeating a Superior High School opponent in the Colfax gym.

“Brady had an outstanding year and beat some really good wrestlers on his way to the state tournament,” head coach Jim Poirior said. “Three of his five losses came against wrestlers that made it to the state finals,” he added.

Simonson’s teammate Brady Hetke, another junior, was also named to the team. He wrestled at 195 pounds and finished with a record of 20-8.
