Powerlifting takes off in Elk Mound
The future of powerlifting at Elk Mound High School looks bright. Last year, Elk Mound’s inaugural team had 19 lifters. The 2014-15 season saw 40 lifters compete on the team.
The team competed in four meets this season, including their first home meet. Elk Mound completed their regular lifting season on Saturday, February 21 at the Whitehall Last Chance Meet. The team is coached by Dylan Pronschinske and Sarah Hoover.
Nine Elk Mound lifters have qualified to compete at the State High School Powerlifting meet on March 14-15 in Necedah. To earn an invitation to the state meet, lifters need to lift a qualifying total weight based on their weight class. Totals are the combined weights they lift in the squat, bench press, and deadlift. Approximately 418 lifters from throughout Wisconsin qualified for the 2015 state meet. Qualifying for State were seniors Eric Walling, Ben Mack, Elizabeth Schreiber, and Ryan Reynolds; junior Jade Sorenson, sophomores George Friberg, Emily Ausman, and Tyler Sahm, and freshman Allison Lindquist.
