Colfax-Bloomer grapplers compete at Shell Lake Challenge

SHELL LAKE — Led by a runner up finish from Brady Simonson, the Colfax-Bloomer wrestling team, competing with only nine wrestlers, placed sixth of eight teams at the Shell Lake Challenge Jan. 24.

Simonson received a bye in the first round of his 126 pound class, then won by a fall in his second match at 1:19,  received another bye, then won by another fall at 2:35 before losing the championship match to Seth Schlegal of Spring Valley by a slim 3-2 decision.

Third place finishers for C-B were Jon Hayton at 152 pounds with a record of 4-1 as he won his first three matches, two by a fall and the third by a 7-3 decision, then lost via a pin before winning the third place match by a fall over teammate Collin Bungartz at 1:50. Bungartz was fourth with a record of 3-2. Zack Arvold was also fourth at 160 pounds, losing his first match, then winning by a decision and a fall at 1:58, but dropped the third place match 10-0 to Wyatt Juneau of Chequamegon. Brady Chance and Jarrod Kressin both earned  fourth place finishes as Chance won three matches and lost two in the 285 pound class, and Kressin was also 3-2 on the day at 138 pounds.

Jacob Malinowski placed fifth at 113 pounds with a record of 3-1, Eric Wachtendonk ended up sixth at 195 pounds with a 2-3 record and Teagan Olson was 1-4 on the day at 170 pounds for seventh place.

C-B will wrestle a home meet in Colfax Tuesday, Jan. 27 against Superior.
