Colfax-Bloomer wrestlers have busy week
After splitting a pair of dual meets, winning 39-36 against Spooner Jan. 13 then losing 60-18 to Cumberland three days later, the Colfax-Bloomer wrestling team competed at the Ladysmith Invite Saturday, Jan. 17.
Spooner
Starting with the 152 pound match, C-B’s Jon Hayton lost by a pin and Zack Arvold at 160 pounds and Austin Sommerfield at 170 pounds also lost their matches. Brady Hetke finally put points up for B-C with a forfeit win at 182 pounds and Matt Shaw at 195 pounds and Eric Wachtendonk at 220 pounds followed suit with forfeit wins. Ryan Ratcliff won a 5-3 decision at 285 pounds but Justin Wachtendonk lost by a fall at 113 pounds. The next three C-B grapplers won their matches including Jacob Malinowski at 120 pounds by a fall, Ike Kramschuster at 126 pounds by another forfeit and Brady Simonson won by a pin at 132 pounds. C-B’s final two wrestlers, 138 pounder Jarrod Kressin and 145 pounder Collin Bungartz both lost by a fall but the team had enough points accumulated to hold on for the win.
Cumberland
C-B was a little “outmatched” against a very strong Cumberland team as Simonson, Arvold and Hetke were the only ones to win. Simonson posted a major decision over his opponent 18-8, Arvold, wrestling up at 170 pounds won 8-1 and Hetke won 20-4.
Ladysmith Invitational
Simonson led C-B with a second place finish, winning his first three matches all via pins, then lost the championship match 3-0 to Ben Adams of Bruce who has a record of 34-1. Malinowski placed fifth with a record of 3-1, Arvold was sixth, winning two and losing two matches, Kressin and Hayton were eighth as they both went 1-3 for the day, Bungartz was ninth after losing his first match then winning his next three, and placing 11th was Eric Wachtendonk with a 2-2 record. Kramschuster ended up in 14th place with a 1-3 record and Justin Wachtendonk was injured and lost all four matches by default.
