Mounders lose to SP Assumption

ELK MOUND -— The Elk Mound  boys dropped their fourth straight game, this time to the ninth ranked team in Division 5, Wisconsin Rapids Assumption 44-39 at home Friday, Jan. 9.

The Mounders scored 27 of their points from long range as they connected on nine triples in the game. Brandon Bohl had three in the first quarter while Noah Zurbuchen and Cole Tyman both had one to go with a deuce from Colin Svee but the Mounders were still down 17-16. Adding  just four second quarter points didn’t help their cause any and they went into the intermission behind 28-21.

Tyman seemed to be the only Mounder with any consistency in the shooting department the second half as he tallied all nine of their points on a trey and three close range shots while the defense did their part, holding the Royals to five points and it was only a three point deficit for the Mounders, down 33-30 heading into the last quarter. Tyman drained his third and fourth shots from behind the arc to go with Bohl’s fourth of the game but it wasn’t enough to overcome the Royals’ lead as their top scorer, Chase Lamp came up with six points to help them hold on.

“We shot the ball well enough to win but we had too many unforced errors,” coach Chris Hahn said. “We turned it over 20 times and when you lose by five points, each of these possessions become very important. We also gave up 19 offensive rebounds and they scored 16 points off of them which makes it nearly impossible to win games.”

Tyman finished with a career high 20 points to lead all scorers while Bohl added 12. Assumption’s Lamp, who averages 17 points a game was held to 12  by the Mounders’ defense to lead the Royals.
