The lights were a little dimmer in the Mondovi gym after the Colfax girls shot some of them out by nailing 11 three pointers en route to a 54-27 win over the Buffaloes Dec. 19. The win put them at 6-0 in the conference heading into the Christmas break.
Colfax jumped out to a 14-4 lead after the first quarter and held a lead throughout the game against the team who knocked them out of the regional tournament a year ago. Both teams have a lot of new players on the court but the Vikings have enough veteran players to lead them including Dannielle Dachel who came up with five second quarter points to help the Vikings hold a 24-12 halftime lead.
Dachel went on a shooting streak in the third when she canned a trio of triples while Katie Christoffel and Ally Heidorn both added one and it was 39-17 when the fourth quarter came around. Alexis Rudi joined the three pointer club with one, as did Andrea Brantner and Karina Wait in the final stanza for the blowout win.
“Mondovi really packed the middle on us so we shot a ton of threes,” coach Joe Doucette said. “We missed a lot of good looks but we stayed with it and started to hit. Defensively, they had some success going inside on us but I thought we were pretty solid otherwise.”
Dachel finished with 14 points, four assists and three steals and no turnovers playing the point guard position. Rudi added nine points and Christoffel had a career high eight points while Mikaela Liebfried scored her first varsity points with three in the fourth quarter. The Vikings were just five of 14 from the foul line while the Buffaloes were eight of 12.
