Lady Vikings bulldoze Bulldogs

by Maryls Kruger

BOYCEVILLE — Dannielle Dachel nearly outscored the whole Boyceville team as she poured in a career high 17 points to lead Colfax to a 46-17 win on the basketball court Nov. 25 in Boyceville. The Vikings upped their record to 2-0 for the season while Boyceville is 0-2 for the year.

It was slow going for both teams to start the game with the Vikings holding a slim 5-2 lead after a quarter of play on a Dachel free toss and bucket and a deuce from Makenzi White-Quilling. Abbey Bird, the Bulldogs leading scorer last season, hit a pair of free throws for her team, but after trying to play with a torn knee ligament, she ended up leaving the game shortly after.  Colfax took charge in the second stanza, outscoring the Bulldogs 18-2 when Karina Wait nailed a triple and added a free throw on the play to put Colfax up 11-4.  Dachel caught fire from down town and drained a trio of triples and added a pair of free throws to go with a free throw by Ally Heidorn for a 23-4 halftime lead.

Boyceville coach Jolene Bird must have given her team a pretty good pep talk during the break as the Bulldogs came storming back to score the first nine points of the quarter, cutting the Colfax lead to 23-13. But the Vikings countered with their own nine point run on two buckets from Chey Olson, Dachel’s fourth trey of the game and a free toss from both Katie Christoffel and Andrea Brantner, allowing the Vikings to cruise into the final quarter with a 32-13 lead.

The Colfax defense held the Bulldogs to just four more points while they came up with 14 in the fourth quarter, led by a triple each from White-Quilling and Megan Schleusner. White-Quilling and Wait finished with eight points each in the game to go with Dachel’s 17. The Vikings were 11 of 27 from the foul line while Boyceville was six of eight.

Colfax will have a week off before hosting Elk Mound Dec. 5.
