Bloomer-Colfax grapplers preparing to hit the mat

COLFAX — Hoping to improve on their fifth place finish in the Heart O’ North Conference tournament a year ago  the Bloomer-Colfax co-op wrestling team began practice Nov. 17 with 19 wrestlers on the roster.

Leading the troops will be junior Brady Simonson who finished third in the conference meet and second in the regional and was the only one to advance to the sectional meet last year for third year coach Jim Poirier. After winning a conference, regional and sectional title and advancing to state as a freshman, Simonson, who finished with a record of 43-18 as a sophomore, did not place high enough in the sectional to get back to Madison.

Seniors returning include Jon Hayton, Matt Shaw, Justin Wachtendonk, Jacob Malinowski, Tyler Stoll and Brady Chance, along with juniors Zack Arvold, Jon Thorgerson, Stephan Snyder, Brady Hetke and Ryan Ratcliff. Sophomores competing for a varsity spot are Cole Anderson-Olson, Austin Summerfield and Collin Bungartz while freshman include Ted Arvold, Joe Hayton. Jared Stoll, Ike Kramschuster and Adam Malinowski.

Poirier will be assisted by his son Jordan Poirier this year as the team begins dual competition at Ladysmith Dec. 4.
