Colfax Health and Rehab News – 10-29-2014

57 Days until Christmas! Isn’t that exciting? We think so and are already planning for all the special events that will take place during the next two months.

This week we will kick off the season with our annual Halloween Dance on Friday afternoon, October 31st. Honey and Me will be the entertainment. Residents, visitors and staff are encouraged to wear costumes.

On Monday, November 3rd at 3 o’clock in the Square we are going to have a retirement party for Becky Hagen, RN. Becky has been with the company 28 years since June 4th, 1986. We want to invite friends and family to come and help us celebrate.

Looking back on the week that was will give you some idea of how our residents spend their time. Our facility is structured to be a home-like environment. Residents get up and have breakfast of their choice when they want it. Notices on the boards inform residents of the activity programs available for the day.

Devotions, current events and exercise in the mornings on Monday and Tuesdays, Church on Wednesday mornings. This week we had Pastor Conklin from United Methodist Church and Tainter Methodist Church led the service. Delores Huber was the Pianist. Linnea and Veda were here to help residents.

Rosary and Gospel Sing is on Friday, Bingo and Happy Hour fill the afternoons on Tuesday and Friday.

Volleyball is played Thursday morning and Hollywood card games are played on Saturday. Kick ball is played in the Rotunda every evening at 6 p.m. The exception to this activity is when River Boat Randy comes to entertain. He is a music therapist and puts on an interactive program that everyone enjoys. We also have Bowling Tournaments, Wheel of Fortune, crafts, frosting cookies, and making dog bones. We also play bean bag toss, target shoot and do giant cross word puzzles and quilt.

We have Beauty Boutique every other week where residents can get manicures in our Beauty Salon. Beauticians come on Tuesday and Fridays to do the haircut and curls. Some residents’ family members use the salon.

One afternoon a week we have musical entertainers come to the Square to perform. This week JC Colby put on a stellar performance. He has a melodious voice and yodels so sweet the birds stop singing just to listen to his voice. In the next two months we will have performances by Honey and Me, Magic Mary, Chuck Kirkwood and Friends, Rudy Rudesill, Steve Szydell, Rich Schroeder, Dale Martel, and JC Colby will perform again in December. Kathy Irwin will be here several times playing the piano for our sing-a- longs.

The musical departments at the Colfax school often put on programs for the residents’ entertainment. This week the High School Choir had a concert in the Square on Thursday afternoon. Sarah Rickie the student teacher led the singers and Carrie Christianson played the piano. You have all heard of “Americas Got Talent”, well, so does Colfax!  The 60 kindergarten children will sing scary Halloween songs for the residents at 1:45 in the Square.

Several Cub Scout troops and the 4-H clubs come to Christmas Carol in December. The chefs like to have lots of treats for the groups when they perform. We also like to have some community programs.

This week we had a guest speaker from a faith-based service who will present a Planned Estate Giving Seminar. A lunch was served and the presentation was well received and the information was very helpful.

Our LOVE LIGHT STAR will be erected soon. But it will not be turned on until December 4th at our Love Light Program at 2 p.m. in the Square.  A Love Light in Memory of someone or in Honor of someone will be $5.00 per name. The names will appear in the messenger the week between Christmas and New Year’s. The names will also be read at the Love Light program in the Square on December 4th. Our residents Open House Christmas program will be from 3:30 to 7:30 pm December 18th. Santa and his number one elf Daisy have promised to make an appearance.
