Colfax netters finish 3-2 at Cameron tourney

CAMERON — Facing strong competition after a long week of homecoming activities, the Colfax volleyball team won three matches and lost two at a tournament held in Cameron Sept. 27.

 Colfax started the day with a three set loss to Fall Creek, 25-27, 25-11, 6-15 with Kori Buchanan slamming 17 kills while Chey Olson added 11. Lakken Meredith led in assists with 21, Courtney Ottinger was 17 for 17 serving and Olson collected 13 digs.

They defeated Division 1 Rice Lake in two sets, 25-17, 25-19 as Olson led in kills with nine while Katie Christoffel was 20 for 20 with four aces in the serving department. Meredith finished with 10 of the team’s 15 assists while Dannielle Dachel had the other five.

Colfax defeated Prairie Farm 25-22, 25-19, then went on to beat conference rival Boyceville 25-13, 25-23 with Olson and Buchanan combining for 21 kills and 15 digs against the Bulldogs.

Facing Cameron in the final match of the day, a team that is one of the favorites in the same sectional as Colfax this year, the Vikings won the first set 25-22, lost the second 15-25 then fell apart as they dropped the third 6-15. Buchanan slammed 13 kills and Olson had nine, Bryana Buchanan led in digs with 11 and Meredith finished with 25 assists.

“It was a great showing for our girls after a long week of excitement,” coach Pam Meredith said. “We had a lot of success against teams that are ranked in the Wisconsin Volleyball Coaches Association poll. We showed we are a top team to contend with in the area with our drive, play and perseverance,” she added.
