Colfax Health and Rehab – 10-1-2014

Multicolored vistas greeted everyone this week as the official fall season began. Every turn and bend gave the residents vibrant views and that was inside our building. Outside the changing leaves made a spectacle of themselves as well.

Breathtaking landscapes and brilliant colors everywhere one looked. The warmer days were enjoyed by residents as they soaked in the warm sunny afternoons. The activity programs were well attended. Residents could participate or just listen to the programs.

Monday morning and Tuesday morning we had devotions, current events and a bit of stretching exercise. Monday afternoon was a participation program because Kathy Irwin led a sing-a long. Residents decide on the song and Kathy played the melody on the piano. The result was a fun filled afternoon followed by coffee and cookies.

Bingo was the Tuesday and Friday afternoon programs. Happy Hour happily follows bingo.

On Wednesday morning we have a church service. Each week a different local minister comes to lead the worship service. This week Pastor Les Walck from Colfax Lutheran Church led the service. Delores Huber was our pianist. In the afternoon residents gathered in Ridge Crest Manor for our monthly Bowling Tournament. Every participant bowled well, however Irene Hinrich came out on top with the best score. She proudly carried the traveling trophy home.

On Thursday morning residents went to the Square and played volleyball. Residents like to play ball games. Every evening they gather in the Rotunda and play kick ball. I have been told they get points if they can nip a staff member. Thursday afternoon Rudy Rudisle charmed the audience gathered in the Square with his sweet music. The afternoon was a double-header. We had a retirement party for Carol Redmann, RN. She had worked at Colfax Health and Rehab since May of 1985. Friends and family came to help us celebrate.

Next Friday October 3rd at 3 p.m. we will have another retirement party. Dick Vandaalwyk will officially retire after 35 years. Friends and family are cordially invited to help us celebrate. Matt Klukas who has been here since 2005 will become the Director of Maintenance.

On Friday morning Glen, Julie and Delores were here for our Gospel Sing. Loretta led the Rosary for our Catholic residents before the Gospel sing. All these programs would not be possible without the help of our many volunteers. Veda, Linnea, Mary, Eileen, LeAnn, Vonnie, Merle and Leona Ubbelohde are here every week.

Weekends are a lonely time for some residents and more volunteers on the weekend would be wonderful. We would love to have more people involved. If you have a desire to be one of our volunteers please call (715-962-3186). That is just a little of the happenings here in beautiful, colorful down town Colfax where the leaves are changing as fast as women change their minds!
