Elk Mound netters compete at McDonell Invite

In preparation for the upcoming conference schedule which begins Sept. 16, the Elk Mound volleyball team won one match and lost four at the Chippewa Falls McDonell Invitational Saturday, Sept. 13.

The Mounders defeated Osseo-Fairchild in two sets as Elly Friberg led the offense with five kills and two service aces, along with 10 digs on the defensive end. Dayna Kotecki added nine assists and Leia Kufahl contributed with five assists, 11 digs and a pair of aces.

Losing two sets to one to Thorp, Serena Wieser led the Mounders in kills with eight while Lizzie Schreiber added six. Kotecki and Kufahl combined for 26 assists and Morgan Polden came up with 14 digs.

In another two sets to one loss to Greenwood, Polden came up with nine kills and was nine for nine serving and Schreiber added seven kills. Kotecki led in assists with 19 and Wieser finished with a trio of aces from the service line.

The Mounders went three sets again, this time aginst Loyal-Granton before dropping the match 2-1 as Katie Benson led in kills with five, Kufahl set her teammates up nine times and and was a perfect 12 for 12 serving, Kotecki added eight assists and two aces, Moriah Mauer was 12 for 12 at the service line and Friberg, Rachel Caron and Wieser all had nine digs.

And another two sets to one loss to host McDonell had Polden leading in kills with nine, Kotecki in assists with 13, Polden and Caron in digs with 13 and Caron and Wieser both had a pair of aces.

Elk Mound begins conference play with a pair of road games, Sept. 16 at Spring Valley and Sept. 18 at Elmwood.
