Elk Mound cross country teams race in Bloomer
BLOOMER – 27 members of the Elk Mound boys and girls cross country teams traveled to Bloomer Sept. 9 for a meet, resulting in a sixth place finish out of 10 teams for the boys and an eighth place in a field of 10 for the girls.
Caleb Kruger led the Mounder boys’ brigade again, coming in for 14th place with a time of 20:44, a little over four minutes behind the winner Daniel Pederson of Spooner who finished at 16:40. Following Kruger was Lucas Winter in 16th at 20:48, Hayden Kohls in 22nd at 21:17 and Nate Kruger right behind him in 23rd at 21:29. Running together, Jake Johnson was 40th at 23:00, Jared Strand 41st in 23:05, Jonas Kohls in 42nd at 23:08 and Grant Kjellberg for 45th at 23:15. Also competing were Nate Lind (58th, 23:53), Bowdrie Noller (71st, 24:52), Nate Schreiber (72nd, 24:56), William Stone (75th, 25:20), Erik Strand (77th, 25:23), Aaron Maves (89th, 27:36), Matt McLaughlin (90th, 27:39) and Tyler Svihovac (99th, 29:14). There were 102 individuals in the race.
Elizabeth Fasbender made her return to the running scene, coming in for 16th place to lead the Elk Mound girls much like she did all last season,with a time of 24:13. (Last year’s number two runner Kami King elected not to compete this year). Behind Fasbender was Hannah Cedarblade for 26th place in 25:33, Kaitlyn Baier in 35th at 26:54, Elayna Gutsch in 40th at 27:27, Nevada LaPointe in 51st at 29:07, Hannah Carlson in 52nd in 29:09 and O’Ryhann Hay for 55th in 29:42. Other Mounder finishers were Lexi Schindler (63rd, 29:53), Corrine Zimmer (68th, 31:03), Mattea Linberg (82nd, 41:14) and Kassie Jain (83rd, 41:14). Bloomer’s Cora Bruxvoort won the race with a time of 20:40.
“We tried pack running with our top 5-8 runners sticking together for the first two miles,” coach Jeremiah Fredrickson said. “Then we raced in from there. We had a lot of personal best times by our 3-8 runners which is what we were looking for,” he added.
