Colfax Health and Rehab – 9-17-2014

It’s a beautiful day in our neighborhood, a beautiful day in our neighborhood, would you be mine, and would you be my neighbor? Mr. Rogers enjoyed people and was proud of his neighborhood. Here at Colfax Health and Rehab we too are proud to be your neighbors.

Maple Lane, Cedar Lane, Sandy Ridge, Ridge Crest and Birch Lane are the neighborhoods residents live in. Each of these neighborhoods is so special. Our town Square is where residents gather for worship, games, music and group socialization.

On Sundays in the Square we broadcast Mass and a church service from Eau Claire. The Square is next to the main kitchen; which comes in very handy for residents and guests alike when they need coffee and cookies while visiting or enjoying a program.

On Monday and Tuesday mornings we have devotions, current events and exercise in the Square.

On Wednesday morning the new Pastor from New Hope Lutheran Church Sand Creek and Pine Creek led the church service. Pastor Josh Toufar is originally from Chetek. He and his wife Kayla and their 5-month-old daughter Olivia feel like taking this call is like coming home. Church services for New Hope Lutheran are at 9am in Pine Creek and 10:30 in Sand Creek. Delores Huber was our pianist.

On Thursday morning many volleyball players gathered in the Square. It is always an entertaining time. Friday morning Loretta led the Rosary for our Catholic residents in the East resident dining area. The Gospel Sing was in the Square and was led by Julie McNaughton playing the flute, Bruce Schroeder on the guitar and Delores Huber was the pianist. The afternoon programs are varied. This week we had music by Steve Szydell. He and his guitar are very entertaining.

Tuesday was our regular Bingo at 2 p.m. followed by Happy Hour. Wednesday afternoon residents gathered in the Square to try and solve the Giant Cross word puzzles. River Boat Randy is back on the schedule every other Wednesday evening. Randy is a music therapist with an interactive program involving the residents. They just love him!

On Thursday the Square hosted an apple tasting party. Residents used their artistic talent when drawing apples and apple trees. We called it “Express yourself in Color”. We tasted slices of many apples. Before leaving the Square residents were served bowls of sliced apples, caramel and sprinkled with nuts. The cool weather indubitably created sweeter apples!

On Friday afternoon the Bingo players returned to the Square for another round of Bingo and Happy Hour!

Saturday afternoon’s residents played Hollywood in the Square. Many volunteers come and help each week. This week LeAnn Mayner, Linnea Thompson, Eileen Stockke, Mary Biesterveld, Leona Ubbelhode, Vonnie Flesberg, Mona Thorson and Merle Roth gave of their time and talents. We are blessed by their helping hands and hearts. Those are just some of the happenings here in the land of Colfax where the men are handsome, the women good looking and the children are way above average!
