Elk Mound cross country teams compete in Hammond

HAMMOND — The Elk Mound boys and girls cross country teams avoided rain showers for the most part but battled high humidity when they traveled to Hammond for a meet hosted by St. Croix Central September 4. The boys placed in the middle of the 13 team field, finishing eighth, while the girls, with only six competitors, ended up last among 12 complete teams.

Caleb Kruger continues to lead the Mounders, finishing 16th individually with a time of 19:45 with the winner, Jordan Bringgold of conference rival St. Croix Central paving the way at 17:24 to lead the Panthers to a tie with Osceola for the team title. Next in for Elk Mound was Lucas Winter in 20th at 20:00, Nate Kruger followed for 57th place in 22:20, Hayden Kohls was in the 59th spot at 22:20 and scoring team points for fifth was Jared Strand in 67th place at 22:33.

Also competing were Ryan Mohr (80th, 23:14), Grant Kjellberg (83rd, 23:17), Jake Johnson (94th, 23:44), Jonas Kohls (97th, 23:50), Nate Lind (127th, 26:29), Erik Strand (128th, 27:00), William Stone (129th, 27:05), Matt McLaughlin (133rd, 27:27) and Aaron Maves (146th, 28:52). There were 154 total runners in the meet.

The girls struggled for the second meet in a row with their first runner, Hannah Cedarblade crossing the finish line in 50th place with a time of 20:42. Elayna Gutsch was the second Mounder in, placing 76th at 29:27 with Hannah Carlson on her heels for 77th place at 29:29, and Lexi Schindler just a spot behind for 78th place at 29:31. Fifth place points came from O’Rhyann Hay in 89th place at 31:04 and Mattea Linberg came in at 32:24 for 95th place. There were 107 individuals in the contest which was won by Sophie Klein of St. Croix Falls at 21:26 while Prescott won the team title.
