Tryston Beyrer of Colfax scored several first place finishes in Junior Beef Cattle Shows at the Wisconsin State Fair Aug. 5-15.

Colfax Elementary/Middle School principal Bill Yingst made a surprise visit to the monthly school board meeting after coming home for a 15 day leave from his year tour of duty with the Army Reserves in Afghanistan.

A street dance will be held by the Colfax Kiwanis Club to celebrate the end of major work done on the Highway 40 improvement project that has made life very interesting for Colfax residents all summer long.

While digging around in the dirt near his parent’s summer home outside of Colfax, seven year old Ben Luer found several treasures including his great aunt Evelyn Oleson’s 1945 class ring that had been thrown out with dishwater by accident in 1946 by her sister Sylvia Thomas.

Rebecca Melgaard of Eau Claire and Bradley Mueller of Elk Mound were married July 8 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Eau Claire.

Cory Knutson of Colfax, an employee of Beatrice-Hunt-Wesson of Menomonie, took first place in the salted butter competition at the 1989 Governor’s Sweepstakes Cheese and Butter Contest at the Wisconsin State Fair.

Debra Kay Harnisch  and Glen Larson were united in marriage Aug. 11 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Chippewa Falls.

Colfax senior quarterback Tim Prince capped an opening 65 yard drive by scoring from two yards out and the defense held on for a 6-0 win over Flambeau in the season opener.

Two touchdown passes from Bruce Meyers to Dan Molitor along with a Meyers to Kevin Malnory scoring pass and a rushing score by Jon Solem helped give Elk Mound a 26-0 opening game win over New Auburn.

Colfax is slowly coming back to life and recuperating after staging a three day celebration in observance of the village’s one hundredth birthday.

Miss Marilyn Ann Johnson of Colfax and Richard J. Kock of Eau Claire were married August 22 at Holden Lutheran Church.

Born to Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Luer, a daughter, Nancy Faye, on August 17 at Luther Hospital.

Lana Schnoor of Colfax and Stephen Price of Chippewa Falls were united in marriage Aug. 22 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls.

August 25, 1949

Lightning struck the second barn on the Gilbert Prince farm seven miles east of Colfax last Tuesday night, burning the barn to the ground and destroying the entire hay crop that was stored in it.

The Rev. O. A. Hjemboe of Strum, has accepted a call to preach in the Norton, Holden and Running Valley congregation.

Legionnaires attending future meetings of Russell-Toycen Post No. 131 will be treated to sound moving pictures screened by the post’s new $400.00 Bell and Howell projector purchased last week.

John D. Burns is now the new postmaster at the Colfax post office, succeeding N. A. Lee.

An automobile party consisting of about forty vehicles from the village and surrounding areas, all loaded with their family and friends, went to Irvine Park in Chippewa Falls where a picnic dinner was partaken of and a very enjoyable time was spent visiting and viewing the beautiful park.
