The third week in June was wet but not wild!
Well…maybe a little wild on Monday when we spent the entire day at Camp Elderberry. This was our second year at Camp Elderberry, and this year’s theme was “Let the Sun Shine In”. The opening ceremony started at 10 a.m. with devotions and a sing-a-long. Residents gathered around the camp fire in the rotunda and sang camp songs while Nancy Odem played the autoharp. Everyone was given a sun visor. Each time residents came to a camp program they were awarded another sticker for their visor. Residents enjoyed a picnic lunch of hot dogs, beans, potato salad, chips and watermelon. An outdoor Rex class was scheduled at 12:45. At 1:15 three areas were set up in the square with three different camp crafts. It was time for a Nature Study at 2:15. Resident’s gathered in the courtyard under the gazebo. They got to see and hold baby bunnies, chickens, turkeys, and kittens. The baby animals were cuddled and nuzzled by everyone. The big lop-eared rabbit scampered around jumping high in the air. He finally flopped down and soaked in the beautiful weather. When 3:00 rolled around it was time for residents to enjoy Smores in the Square. Closing Taps around the camp fire brought an end to the camping experience. The Camp Counselors were Sue, Julie, LeAnn and Desirae. Everyone slept well after the busy day!
On Tuesday we had our regular bingo and happy hour events. Veda and Linnea and Julie were here to help many days this week. Wednesday Pastor Schweitzer from Bethany Lutheran Church in Colfax served Communion at our morning church service.
Delores Huber was our pianist on Wednesdays and Fridays for our Gospel sing. In the afternoon we had our monthly bowling tournament. Cliff Retzloff wheeled away with the Trophy for highest score. Congrats Cliff!
Thursday’s volleyball game was so well attended Kathy used to volleyballs so everyone could get a chance to participate. Dale Martell was our entertainer in the afternoon. What a guy! His music is very special.
On Friday morning Glen and Delores led the gospel service while Loretta led the rosary for our Catholic residents. Dime bingo was the event for the afternoon.
On Saturday residents played Hollywood with Sue. We had a fun filled week here in the land of Colfax where not even the weather could dampen our spirits!
