Stene to run for rep of 67th Assembly District

COLFAX —  Colfax resident Gary Stene has filed nomination papers to run as a Democratic candidate for the 67th Assembly District in the November election against Incumbent Republican Representative Tom Larson.

According to information available from the Wisconsin Government Accountability Board’s website, Stene filed nomination papers on the June 2 deadline with 400 valid signatures.

Larson filed nomination papers on May 16 with 288 valid signatures.

The 67th Assembly District covers New Auburn in Barron County, along with the Chippewa County Towns of Anson, Arthur, Auburn, Birch Creek, Bloomer, Cleveland, Colburn, Cooks Valley, Delmar, Eagle Point, Estella, Goetz, Howard, Lake Holcombe, Ruby, Sampson, Tilden, Wheaton, and Woodmohr.

In addition, the 67th Assembly District includes the Village of Cadott, and the cities of Bloomer, Chippewa Falls and Cornell.

In Dunn County, the 67th Assembly District includes the Towns of Colfax, Elk Mound, Grant, Hay River, Otter Creek, Red Cedar, Sand Creek, Sheridan, Sherman, Spring Brook, Tainter and Wilson, along with the Villages of Colfax, Elk Mound, Ridgeland, and Wheeler.

Senate

Incumbent Republican State Senator Terry Moulton of Chippewa Falls, District 23, will face Democratic challenger Phil Swanhorst in the November election.

Moulton filed nomination papers on May 28 with 770 valid signatures.

Swanhorst, also a Chippewa Falls resident, filed nomination papers on June 2 with 795 valid signatures.

The 23rd Senate District includes the 67th, 68th and 69th Assembly Districts.

Sheriff

Two Democratic candidates will be on the ballot for the August primary in Dunn County for sheriff.

Challenger Chris Kruse of Boyceville will face off against Incumbent Sheriff Dennis Smith.

Kruse filed nomination papers March 11 and had 391 valid signatures.

Smith filed nomination papers March 28 with 358 valid signatures.

No Republican candidates have filed nomination papers for Dunn County sheriff.

Clerk of courts

Clara D. Minor, the incumbent Democratic clerk of courts in Dunn County, registered her campaign on March 20 and submitted 217 valid signatures.

No Republican candidates have filed nomination papers for Dunn County clerk of courts.
