Elk Mound track teams compete in regional meet

MONDOVI — After moving the regional meet to a Wednesday due to a steady rain on the scheduled day before, the Elk Mound girls finished third while the boys tied for fourth in the eight team Division II track and field meet held in Mondovi May 28. The top eight places scored team points while the top four moved on to the sectional meet in Bloomer.
 The girls were led by two event winner Elizabeth Fasbender who took the 800m run (2:34.26) and the 1600m run (5:48.51). Elly Friberg won the high jump (5-00) and Alyssa Buros seems to be peaking at the right time by winning the shot put (34-08.75) and placing second in the discus (105-11). Friberg was also the runner up in the 100m dash (13.21) as was the 4 X 200 relay with Kaitlyn Baier, Friberg, Kami King and McKenna McVey (1:51.53).

Fourth places came from Mikayla Solberg in the discus (91-09) and the 4 X 400 relay of Fasbender, Emily Finder, Baier and Hannah Flatness (4:29.29).

Just missing a chance to compete at sectionals by finishing fifth were Flatness in the 400m dash (1:08.59), Kayla Black in the 3200m run (15:21), Riley Radtke in the 100m hurdles (18.24) and Taylor DeLong in the shot put (32-00.25)

Flatness placed sixth in the 800m run (2:38.32), and other sixths came from Jamie Solem in the 100m hurdles (19.66),Waive Melgaard in the high jump (4-04), Kathleen Simmons in the discus (86-01) and the 4 X 800 relay with Finder, Mariah Rudd, Black and Sarah Sweeney (12:48).

Also scoring team points with an eighth place were Radtke in the 300m hurdles (53,24) and Paxtyn Pavelski in the triple jump (28-01).

Jonah Bauer was a double winner again for the boys, taking the 100m dash (11.13) and the 200m dash (22.65) and placing second was the 4 X 200 relay team with Bauer, Adam Gottschalk, Noah Zurbuchen and Chase Morris (1:37.01). Thirds came from Ben Holzwarth in the 1600m run (4:58.48) and the 3200m run (10:28) along with Zac Doll in the high jump (5-11). Also moving on with fourth place finishes were Gottschalk in the 100m dash (11.90) and Caleb Kruger in the 1600m run (5:04.32)

Narrowly missing a chance to advance to sectionals by placing fifth were Travis Nelson in the triple jump (38-05), Kruger in the 3200m run (11:27) and the 4 X 100 relay with Gottschalk, Zurbuchen, Tyler Sahm and Morris (47,86). Two relay teams placed sixth including the 4 X 400 with Teegan Peterson, Morris, Aaron Maves and Hunter Johnson (3:57.80) and the 4 X 800 with Johnson, George Friberg, Josh Hall and Sahm (9:43). Johnson was also seventh in the 400m dash (58.41) along with Doll in the long jump (18-08) while final team points came from Gottschalk in the long jump (18-01) and Gabe Anderson in the discus (126-09) for eighth place.
