Bauer, Friberg move on to state track and field meet

BLOOMER — Elk Mound’s Jonah Bauer will represent the boys and Elly Friberg the girls at the WIAA state track and field meet in LaCrosse this Friday and Saturday. Bauer will make his second straight trip in the sprints after winning the 100m dash in 11.23 and taking second in the 200m dash at 22.59 at the Bloomer sectional May 30.


Bauer was also part of the seventh place 4 X 200 relay with Adam Gottschalk, Noah Zurbuchen and Chase Morris in 1:34.79. Bauer and the relay accounted for all 20 of the Mounder team points as they finished tied for 14th in a field of 34 teams as Altoona won the meet with 53 points.

Also competing but not advancing were Zac Doll in the high jump who tied with five others (5-08), Ben Holzwarth placed 11th in both the 1600m run (4:58.88) and the 3200m run (10:27.73) and Caleb Kruger was 13th in the 1600 (5:03.63).

Friberg was the final qualifier in the high jump taking fourth at 5-01. She also ran a leg of the 4 X 200 relay with Kaitlyn Baier, Kami King and McKenna McVey that came just 15 hundredths of a second from moving on as they finished fifth (1:50.11). Friberg also added a seventh in the 100m dash (13.48) while Elizabeth Fasbender placed sixth in the 1600m run (5:37.40) and seventh in the 800m run (2:33.57). Team points came from the top eight places with the Mounders finishing 14th of 30 teams with 16 points with Osceola winning the meet with 116 points.

Also competing were Alyssa Buros who finished 11th in both the shot put (33-05.25) and the discus (97-10.50), the 4 X 400 relay in 13th (4:29.36) with Fasbender, Emily Finder, Baier and Hannah Flatland and Mikayla Solberg in the discus with a 14th place (88-11).
