Top 10 CHS graduates of 2014

COLFAX — Here are the answers to questionnaires distributed by the Colfax Messenger to the top ten graduates of the Colfax High School Class of 2014. The students are listed in the order of their class ranking.

Kaitlyn Toycen

Kaitlyn is the daughter of Mark and Deb Toycen.

Favorite classes at CHS: Band: I have a passion for music, and it is a fun class!; Chemistry/biology: Love experiments and learning about the world; Math (can’t choose which one): love running numbers and figuring out solutions to hard problems.

Most memorable events in high school: Dorian Band Festival: I got to play with tons of talented musicians in Iowa, and I heard an amazing concert!; State track: fun to compete with the best athletes out there two years in a row. Lots of good memories.

Activities during high school: Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Student Council; Science Club; class officer; track; volleyball; Destination Imagination.

Plans after graduation: I will keep my job at Kyle’s Market through the summer then go to UW-Eau Claire with a biochemistry major.

Schyler Manning

Schyler is the daughter of Colleen and Brian Manning.

Favorite classes at CHS: Any science or math classes. I really love both science and math and I enjoy the challenge that some of these classes offer.

Most memorable event in high school: State Forensics has been really memorable for me because it is such a great experience to go and perform and it is always a lot of fun to get to spend time on State Street.

Activities during high school: Forensics; Science Olympiad; theater; band; Science Club; National Honor Society; Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Plans after graduation: I plan on going to college, but I have not decided where yet. I am going to double major in chemistry and math.

Emily Ritenour

Emily is the daughter of Ryan and Tessa Ritenour

Favorite classes at CHS: All math courses, especially Algebra 3. I enjoy math. Computer-Assisted Drafting sparked my interest in engineering. Took CAD for all four years of high school.

Most memorable event in high school: I do not have a specific experience but I would say my entire CAD class that I took all four years of high school definitely was memorable. The class helped me make amazing friends (Troy Bird and Devon Utpadel) as well as helped me become who I am today.

Activities during high school: Youth Options. No clubs or organizations or sports.

Plans after graduation: Find work somewhere either full or part-time then enroll in the Chippewa Valley Technical College liberal arts program. Then work on a computer science/programming/engineering degree. May transfer to Stout. Unsure about that at the moment.

Heidi Lieffort

Heidi is the daughter of Carol and Dave Lieffort.

Favorite classes at CHS: All biology classes because it was hands-on activities and we got to go outside. Choir and band — I love music and enjoy performing.

Most memorable event in high school: My most memorable event would be freshman year going to state in x-country and track and field, the atmosphere and all the people.

Activities during high school: X-country; track and field; Future Farmers of America; Future Business Leaders of America; Student Council; Science Olympiad; Chamber Choir; choir; band; pep band; National Honor Society.

Plans after graduation: My plans are to go to UW-Stout for Environmental Science and be on their track team.

Allison Yingst

Allison is the daughter of Bill and Sarah Yingst.

Favorite classes at CHS: I love my English and Spanish classes most. They are very challenging, but super enjoyable. I also appreciated biology courses and current events.

Most memorable event in high school: My most memorable event in all of high school was my freshmen year of dance team when we made it to state and placed 5th to earn a big trophy. I just smile thinking about it!

Activities during high school: National Honor Society; Student Council; Future Business Leaders of America; Fellowship of Christian Athletes; Letter Club; drama; forensics; Science Club; Spanish Club; varsity golf; varsity dance team; varsity track; varsity volleyball; choir; and numerous volunteer projects.

Plans after graduation: I plan to work at Whitetail Golf Course for my 4th year this summer. I am attending UW-Madison with a major of International Studies in the fall.

Whitney DeMoe

Whitney is the daughter of Andy and Sam DeMoe.

Favorite classes at CHS: I really enjoyed Spanish throughout high school. The class was fun, interesting, and I enjoy learning about other cultures.

Most memorable event in high school: Advancing onto the girls golf state tournament in Madison. The experience was incredible. I was able to play at a prestigious golf course, University Ridge. I was also honored to be not only the first girl from Colfax to advance, but the first golfer ever in school history.

Activities during high school: Future Business Leaders of America; Student Council; boys varsity golf; girls varsity golf; volleyball; varsity dance team; Forensics.

Plans after graduation: I will attend Chippewa Valley Technical College in the fall then transfer to UW-Eau Claire or the University of Minnesota to pursue a degree in nursing. My goal is to be a specialized neonatal nurse.

Ethin Kiekhafer

Ethin is the son of Mike and Jodi Kiekhafer.

Favorite classes at CHS: Biology: Mr. Mosey always took us outside; Pre-calculus: Mrs. Steinke was a very good teacher; College Prep English: Gets us ready for the college class lifestyle.

Most memorable event in high school: Sophomore year when we went to state because my dad also made it to state when he was a sophomore and it was spent with all my friends on a great basketball team.

Activities during high school: Future Business Leaders of America; National Honor Society; basketball; football; baseball.

Plans after graduation: This summer I will be working for 4 Control, Inc. out of Menomonie. I plan to attend Viterbo University next fall. I hope to major in biology with an emphasis on going pre-med.

Emily Tuschl

Emily is the daughter of Jason and Danielle Tuschl.

Favorite classes at CHS: Biology: I enjoy learning about nature; Yearbook: I enjoy planning and imagining a final product. I like to use my creativity.

Most memorable event in high school: Getting to watch and cheer on our girls basketball team at state. It was fun to watch them make school history.

Activities during high school: Softball; volleyball; bowling; National Honor Society; yearbook; Upward Bound.

Plans after graduation: This summer I plan to continue working at Subway. In the fall I plan to continue my education at UW-Green Bay.

Logan Sikora

Logan is the son of Larry and Diane Sikora.

Favorite classes at CHS: I enjoy science classes such as biology and Global Science. I really enjoy the outdoors and we get plenty of time outdoors learning.

Most memorable event in high school: I can’t choose one event particularly but I have enjoyed becoming closer to all of my friends.

Activities during high school: I have been involved in football, track, Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, and National Honor Society at some point in time in my high school career.

Plans after graduation: This summer I plan on moving and working for Andersen Windows in Bayport for the summer. I will be attending Northland College in Ashland, majoring in natural resource management.

Sarah Burton

Sarah is the daughter of Steve Burton and Kandee Burton, Mette Nielsen.

Favorite classes at CHS: My favorite high school classes were biology and advanced biology. They were my favorite because I love learning about the outdoors and anything biology related.

Most memorable event in high school: My freshman year of dance we placed 5th at Dance State. It was memorable because it was a goal of ours to place at state and we actually did it!

Activities during high school: Future Business Leaders of America; National Honor Society; student council; dance team; Science Club; Spanish Club; Letter Club; being a teacher’s aide.

Plans after graduation: I plan to work as a CNA at the Colfax Health and Rehabilitation Center until I move to Duluth to start school at the College of St. Scholastica. I plan on pursuing a nursing major and hopefully continuing onto graduate school to become a Nurse Practitioner.
