Vikings tune up for conference meet

COLFAX — It was cool and windy but at least it wasn’t raining as Colfax hosted their own track and field invitational May 13. The meet is the last one before the boys and girls head to Mondovi for the conference meet on Tuesday, May 20. The girls made the best of it as they finished at the top of all 15 teams while the boys were tenth of 14 teams.

Heidi Lieffort was a one-woman wrecking crew for the girls, winning the pole vault at 8-06 and the discus with a personal best toss (by 12 feet) of 130-05. The throw leaves her just a few feet short of the school record held by her aunt Tina Rothbauer. Lieffort also was the runner up in the 300m hurdles at 48.10 and the high jump with a leap of 4-06.

Dempsey Fogarty was a double winner herself, in the 400m dash at 1:04.10 and the 800m run in 2:34. 90, and added a sixth place in the long jump at 13-10.

Courtney Dressel scored first place points in the 1600m run at 6:05 and took second in the 3200m run at 12:41, while Abbigail Schotter came in right behind her for second in the 1600m run at 6:17. Ally Heidorn also earned a second place in the 100m dash with a time of 13.20.

Third places came from Marianne Scharlau in the shot put at 30-09 and Emily Halpin in the discus throw at 95-11 while Dannielle Dachel ran to a fourth place finish in the 800m run at 2:41. The 4 X 100 relay team was also fourth with Katie Christoffel, Halpin, Bryana Buchanan and Heidorn in 56.10.  Fifth places came from several field events and a relay including Scharlau with a personal best in the high jump at 4-04, Heidorn in the triple jump at 29-05.25 and Halpin in the shot put with a heave of 30-00, as well as the 4 X 200 relay team with Christoffel, Buchanan, Halpin and Heidorn at 1:57.60.

Christoffel added a sixth in the 100m hurdles at 17.94 and final points came by the 4 X 800 relay of Megan Schleusner, Andrea Scharlau, Jezz Tweed and Erin Nellessen at 5:07.10.

The boys were led by second places from Noah Pretasky in the 100m dash at 10.90 and Ben Kragness in the shot put at 47-01.50. Pretasky also scored points with a fifth in the 400m run in 54.40 while Kragness added his own fifth in the discus tossing the flat piece 121-06. Tucker Hovde cruised to a fourth in the 800m run in 2:14.50, Jelani Smit added a fifth place in the 300m hurdles in 44.70 along with a fifth by Hunter Lieffort in the pole vault, soaring 9-06. Aliymu Davis added team points with a seventh place in the 100m dash at 11.40
