Mounder boys split pair of games
Playing within the conference worked out a lot better for the Elk Mound boys’ baseball team than non-conference play as they shut out the St. Croix Central Panthers in Hammond 11-0 May 2, then played a Saturday contest the next day and lost 11-1 at Arcadia.
St. Croix Central
The Mounders seem to have found an ace in the hole with starting pitcher Brandon Bohl as he threw a six inning no-hitter to earn the win, whiffing 10 Panther batters and giving up two walks. Elk Mound grabbed a 7-0 lead in their first at bat of the game and with Bohl in control, coasted from there on out. Dane Lew blasted a pair of doubles in four at bats, Hunter Kohls went 3 for 4 and Cole Tyman and Marcus Klug were both 2 for 4 with one of Tyman’s hits a double. Bohl brought in a pair of runs to help his cause, going 1 for 3 at the plate.

Hits were harder to come by against the Raiders as Elk Mound had just three in the game, one each by Alex Hollister,Tyman and Kohls who collected the only RBI of the game.
Three pitchers saw action for the Mounders with Ryan Conlin starting and taking the loss, while Tyman and Grant Kjellberg each had a turn trying to shut the Raiders down. The three combined to give up 13 hits and seven walks in the contest.
“This was a total opposite game from the one against Central the night before,” coach Paul Andrea said. “But that goes with the territory when you have a young team. There will be peaks and valleys,” he added.
