Colfax golfers compete in pair of conference meets

The Colfax golf team managed to squeeze in a pair of conference meets early last week but continue to struggle with their young team as they finished last in both meets.

Glenwood City

The Vikings traveled to Glenwood City Monday, April 21 with just four players to compete on the Glen Hills course as Trevor Seston shot the low round of 48 for the Vikings for 10th place to earn a conference point. Trey Gullickson came in with a round of 52 for 16th place in the 30 player field while Andrew Buckley finished with a 66 and Trenton Anderson shot a 95. The individual winner was Jake Hierlmeier of Glenwood City with a 40 while his Hilltopper team placed first.

Mondovi

A day after the Glenwood City meet, the Vikings competed at The Valley course in Mondovi and Seston showed his consistency, leading the team again by shooting par on two of the holes and finishing with a 44. Gullickson ended his round with a 50 for 16th place and was followed by Bryce Fransway with a 74, Buckley with a 79 and Anderson ended with a score of 87. Hierlmeier was again the individual winner with a 37 and the Hilltoppers finished first as a team.

“The team is starting to hit the ball better,” Colfax coach Vince Ross said. “But all the sand and the quick greens on the Mondovi course were a problem for some of our golfers. It was a good learning experience for the young players and we were able to see areas we need to work on,” he added.
