Mounder golfers place fifth in first-ever meet

COLFAX — It wasn’t only the first meet of the season for the Elk Mound golf team but the first in school history when they competed in the six team meet held at Whitetail Golf Course April 15. Under sunny skies but rather cool temperatures, the Mounders finished fifth in the meet against all the teams from the Dunn-St. Croix Conference.

Chandler James had the low score for the team, shooting a 52 for nine holes for 16th place in a field of 30 golfers. Jonah LaRock finished with a round of 58 for 22nd place and Jameson Rubenzer scored a 61, Tim Lambele a 63 and Mark Dickenson came in at 69. Medalist for the meet was Jonah Tczap of St. Croix Central with a 40.

“This was the first competitive round of golf for many of our players,” Elk Mound coach Annie Kongshaug said. “They did a great job of contending with the cold conditions and I was very pleased with the results.”

With snow falling in the area the day after this meet, the meet at Glenwood City April 17 was postponed and rescheduled to April 21.
